Let's make philosophy fun.
Let's make philosophy fun.
Say it with pictures, or words.
Hey pussy cat, what's new?

Re: Let's make philosophy fun.
Philosophy already is fun. If you want to do the world a real service, find a way to make religion fun.
Re: Let's make philosophy fun.
What is fun?
It's an attitude.

Is fun the absence of suffering or is fun the presence of flourishing? Can it perhaps even be both? Is it anything that prevents us from seeking personal self-destruction?
Being on the Internet and communicating with others is certainly "fun" to me in some cases. In other cases, it can create consternation or anxiety.
Sometimes I wonder if birth isn't punishment for wrongdoers and yet a blessing for right-doers.
Re: Let's make philosophy fun.
HOW can you think of FUN while liberals are ruining America, and women are throwing men off-balance, and atheists have no morals, and Jews think everyone is evil, and you adult humans can't see anything because of your beliefs, and someone somewhere is starving or being raped, and God is a narcissistic hateful maniac, in the days when this was written?

Re: Let's make philosophy fun.
Well, I'm pretty "liberal" so I apparently have to live with this "fact" that I am ruining America and the rest of the world with it. Meanwhile, wars are brewing, the environment is going haywire, and every other thing one can possibly worry about. And, as a "liberal" (one who believes in the good of personal liberty) I am to blame. I suppose I make a lousy "socialist".Lacewing wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 3:54 pm HOW can you think of FUN while liberals are ruining America, and women are throwing men off-balance, and atheists have no morals, and Jews think everyone is evil, and you adult humans can't see anything because of your beliefs, and someone somewhere is starving or being raped, and God is a narcissistic hateful maniac, in the days when this was written?
Sometimes I think God has some kind of personal beef with "liberals". However, now conservatives seem to be calling themselves "neo-liberals". Does that make them "liberals" also? I know most of them are "free market" fanatics who think nothing can possibly go wrong in a "free market". I suspect they are economically liberal but socially conservative. And I'm not sure that is a good mix to have these days (with all the social problems).

Some kinda fun topics that come to mind:
- 20-30% of Astrology is actually true (but it's not about the sky)
- stopping time, affecting time: is it just some microscopic quantum quirk, or can we do this with our minds too?
- and more generally, can we exploit quantum effects using our attention?
- awakening/enlightenment is actually real (but it's not really what people think it is)
I'm also a sucker for Bronze Age ocean travel theories, but that's not really philosophy.

I wonder why the word fun is in funeral.

Oooh, yes... sounds fun! Can you speak a little about these?Atla wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 7:25 pm Some kinda fun topics that come to mind:

I was thinking about making the Astrology thread to annoy people. Maybe some other day. It's all there hiding in plain sight.Lacewing wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 7:38 pmOooh, yes... sounds fun! I wrote enough about awakening, and the quantum topics are too difficult imo.

It's only since having knowledge that we are immersed in some 'intelligence' system (God) that I started to believe some things relating to Astrology as being plausible.Atla wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 7:57 pmI was thinking about making the Astrology thread to annoy people. I own two books now that years ago I would have scoffed at - 1 Astrology 2 Guide to the Occult and Mysticism.
The book on Astrology has two pages dedicated to each star sign. The two pages on pisces totally nails everything about me. I read the other signs, barely anything in comparison to who I am. Honestly, when I read the two pages on pisces I sometimes think that the God system is having a larf with me - that this book and in particular those two pages were 'generated' to appear as such in my 'dimension' - very plausible
On the fun side - me and my dog are off to the beach today - 37C very hot.

I feel you'd be the kind of guy that would be into Graham Hancock and Randal Carlson stuff?Atla wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:53 pmPerfectly normalattofishpi wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 8:30 pm The book on Astrology has two pages dedicated to each star sign. I can't seem to find a Carlson video that blew my mind - but have this one saved in a playlist.
