to grok Nothing
to grok Nothing
There is no such thing as nothing.
In practical use the word always refers to a specific use-case. The only way there could be no-thing is of there were no minds.
The way somet-hing can come from no-thing is metaphorically, because things didn't exist before minds existed to distinguish them. It was just undifferentiated stuff.

Re: to grok Nothing
Folks get fancy with words and say that nothing is everything, on the logical basis that no perception that is identified as a thing, is a perception of a singular element of that thing that identifies that thing, as that thing.
Every man with good eyesight, or eyesight corrected to good, knows this to be false because of practical experience. Any man can identify a woman with a glance lasting far less than a second, under most any conditions, at most any distance near or far, in weather hot or cold.
Which is not to say that a woman is nothing, or everything, even though popular cinema equates love to the latter.

I wonder what benefit we can expect to derive from this observation of yours.Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 3:33 am There is no such thing as nothing.

Re: to grok Nothing
Exactly, because to know that, would require the concept 'thing' to exist. So yes, there is no such thing as 'nothing' because 'nothing' is not a thing.
Nothing can be thought about only as an abstract thing, but nothing isn't a thing, no - thing.
No thing is and it isn't. It's a paradoxical statement, that will flex the thinking skills until it's thought to be understood.
Nothing is both some thing and no thing.

It's relevant to all meaningful uses of the term. But the real magic is in how all these groks fit together coherently.

If there can be a thing, there can be an absence of a thing. If there can be everything, there can be an absence of everything. Things do exist. No thing is just a quantifier of things.

It sounds like you should have started a thread on the grok of everything.Advocate wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 5:27 pmIt's relevant to all meaningful uses of the term. I wish you would sort out the problem of the quotes in your posts not showing up properly before you do get round to epistemology and ethics.

I turned that "feature" off.

Why did you turn it of, and why do you still include quotes in your posts given that you have turned it off?
[/quote]
I'm only ever here on mobile and it doesn't work for shit on mobile, is why.

Well it makes your posts look like a dog's dinner, if that is of any concern to you.

Quite the opposite. It filters out anyone who's not serious about the Content. Likewise when i keep my video off on Zoom. But really, the site interface hasn't been updated since when, ever?
