What is going on here?
1 Trump actually believes his own lies.
2 Trump thinks he is so smart that he can bamboozle a moderately intelligent reporter.
3 Trump is just stupid and confused applying a mindless american exceptionalism and simply cannot believe his own failure, and the failure of the USA, being the country least capbale oif dealing with the virus.

Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
I think he's living in his own fantasy, in which everything must suit him. Everything and everyone and "facts" are just pieces for him to move around or manipulate as he sees fit, such that he still reigns supreme in his own mind... and "truth" and reality are what he wants them to be. There are clearly many other disturbed people like this in the world. But why are there so many people who don't recognize it for what it is -- and who are actually impressed by it and believe it or justify it in a leader? Such a phenomenon we are witnessing!Sculptor wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 12:48 pm Do yourself a favour and just spend a minute looking at this link.

So is he just cherry picking the graphs that please him whilst he just does not understand the implications of what they actually mean?Lacewing wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 4:18 pmI think he's living in his own fantasy, in which everything must suit him. Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
The deadline of solving your enigma was about 4 years ago. Failing to do so might lead to a Trump-presidencySculptor wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 5:32 pmAs usual your contributions to the Forum are beyond measure.Atla wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 4:41 pmOh look, Sculptor doesn't understand something. Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
I don't think he's smart enough for cherry-picking. I think the graphs are created and explained to him in a way to suit his narrative, and when anyone introduces broader reality, his brain can't compute or even speak to it or reconcile it, so he rejects it like a child and keeps pointing to the picture of the monkey he likes best.

Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
Such a know-it-all.
By all account the US might well be doing what we are probably all going to have to do in the end--get the virus and suck it up.
Places like NZ can't stay cut off from the rest of the world forever. Even now it keeps getting 'quarantine jumpers' so it's only a matter of time before it gets community transmission again. Meanwhile, the rest of the world is building up herd immunity anyway.
And how long before young people realise that they are sacrificing their lives to save selfish old people and unhealthy 'life-clingers' who have smoked and eaten their immune systems into oblivion? Why on earth should they?
Sweden's death rate has all but disappeared (perhaps the aged care facilities have emptied out?) without a lockdown.
Case numbers mean nothing. Does it get reported ad nauseum every time someone gets a cold?
What is 'puzzling' is why we are acting as if it's unusual for the very old and sick to die.
Human arrogance knows no bounds, thinking we can beat nature and even death (while countries continue to build up their military capacities). Perhaps a nice little nuclear war with China over the pretence of concern for Hong Kong is on the cards? Let's see how well we control death and a nuclear winter after that.
Compared to most humans, Trump is practically a genius.

Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
That is correct. He or his team selects the graphs and “facts” he presents. He does not appear to understand all of what he says, as evidenced by the frequent need to walk back or to explain/defend his statements.Sculptor wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 5:31 pmSo is he just cherry picking the graphs that please him whilst he just does not understand the implications of what they actually mean?Lacewing wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 4:18 pmI think he's living in his own fantasy, in which everything must suit him. No, we are acting as if it is civilized and compassionate to care for the weak among us. Such is the nature of being a social animal, for all of us will be weak someday.vegetariantaxidermy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 6:40 pm What is 'puzzling' is why we are acting as if it's unusual for the very old and sick to die.

Re: Trump - a puzzling enigma
Pathetic virtue-signalling and emotional blackmail. That's not reality. Being a 'social animal' does not mean sacrificing the young for the old. People in aged care facilities die of colds and flu all the time. Why are we letting THAT happen?? How cruel and evil of the rest of us.commonsense wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 7:07 pmNo, we are acting as if it is civilized and compassionate to care for the weak among us.
