About the definition of aesthetics
Does the scope of the term "aesthetics" include the philosophy of art, or is the latter something beyond the former? I ask because the term seems ambiguous across different sources (textbooks and elsewhere): some seem to use the term to include the philosophy of art (in addition to theoretical discussion of beauty and taste); others seem to exclude it (e.g., some textbooks are titled "Aesthetics and the Philosophy of Art," or something akin to it, suggesting that the philosophy of art is something in addition to aesthetics).

Re: About the definition of aesthetics
Aesthetics is a philosophy that deals with the arts, but also the appreciation of beauty and creating it. It includes music, poetry, dance, design, painting, drawing, words, anything that involves creating and appreciating such things that enliven existence for us. So in simpler terms, yes it does have to do with the arts of the cultures of the world, but at the same time goes a lot deeper - that is, if you're willing to look for answers.zefan13 wrote:Does the scope of the term "aesthetics" include the philosophy of art, or is the latter something beyond the former?
