What Book Changed Your Mind?
Re: What Book Changed Your Mind?
Life's that way by Jim Beaver.
It teaches to appreciate every little thing and every person walking through the path of life.

"Metamorphosis" by Kafka. Definitely. Anyone can find something in this short but insanely strong story. Made like 20 essays about it just because of how much i love this one!

When I think about the question, I realize that there are probably far too many books for me to even recall. Just thinking about math books in grade school, those books changed me, and have an influence on my life today, as being able to balance my checkbook does come in handy. Grammar books also changed me, even though I may not think about those books at all. History books, physics books, chemistry books, and even geography books.
As far as novels go, I can see how every novel I read gave me some additional insights into people, without me being fully aware of its effect on me.
Even something as crazy as Mein Kampf has affected me ---- it makes me realize that even complete nut jobs can become leaders of countries.
The better question may be what book hasn't affected me, and I'm not sure I could give a single book as an answer.

Plato’s Republic changed my mind. Nietzsche Genealogy of Morals, Beyond Good and Evil, and Stanley Rosen’s The Limits of Analysis changed my mind about Plato. Rather than leading me to reject Plato they led me to a deeper appreciation of his philosophical poetry that takes the guise of transcendent knowledge.
There are plenty of others who have influenced me but no others that changed the direction of my thought.

Well, not the actions prior to reading the book.
The actions AFTER reading a book that changed one's life, are hard to argue that they had been ineffective in changing one's life.
In fact, every book that one reads changes one's life, much like every action, feeling, emotion, experience, etc. etc. changes one's life.
I'll see you on the dark side of the Moon.

There is no dark side of the Moon, really. As a matter of fact, it's all dark.Impenitent wrote: ↑Sun Mar 25, 2018 10:48 pmI appreciate the Floyd quote but it made me think...
how does one "see" in total darkness?

"Running the Amazon" by Joe Kane has been changing my mind a little for quite a time now.
It´s a report of an expedition.
What I still don´t understand: why do reasonable men do dangerous things and endure hardships voluntarily ? The instinct of self-preservation should stop them but it does not.
