one voice in the midst...

Post by Peter Kropotkin »

I ordered a book from Amazon and it was delayed...
and they offered me a refund, but frankly, I would rather have
the book in question... I thought about raising my voice and complain
about this... and then I realized that I was just one voice in the midst of
millions of Amazon shoppers... Who listens to, little less acts upon the
one voice in a midst of millions of voices?

and that is what we have, individually become, one small voice in the midst
of billions of voices... and one of the primary needs of human beings is
to be heard and acknowledged...and in the midst of being one voice
in billions, we can no longer be heard over the din of human existence....

when one is part of a small group, our voice can be heard and acknowledged...
and even in a crowd of a couple of thousands, we can still be heard...
but in a din of millions and even billions, we can no longer raise our
voice loud enough to be heard and acknowledged...

the mass number of people in the world has rendered our voice, invisible...
and our cries of pain and agony are unheard,
the cruelest fate we know, is not death or prison,
but our voice, being rendered silent....
and the meaning of human existence is not in how we see ourselves,
but in how we communicate... the act of communication is the very act
of being human....and to be rendered silent, to have our voice made
invisible by the roar of the crowd, that denies us our humanity....
our very being is found in the act of communication....
the most profound words in the world are.....

I am.....and you are?

and with communication restored, I can become, become human.....
and all it took is communication.....my one voice in the midst...

and what is the meaning of being human...
of communication... of hearing a voice, and communicating with
that voice...

and what of philosophy? Philosophy is just another means of
communicating what it means to be human....
a story we tell each other to try to make sense of life....
about our place in that life.. both individually and universally...

a story that creates context and meaning about being human....
for philosophy is just another story to be told...another lie we
use to justify ourselves...

and what is the ''truth?''
for isn't that the point and purpose of philosophy, to find and engage
with the ''truth?" but there is no one ''truth'' that we can all agree to..
there is no ''truth'' on which we can declare is the final, best hope for ''truth''
and the lie, the biggest lie of all, is this: there is a ''truth''
a universal forever ''truth''... that was, is and always will be...
and that lie leads us into utopias, isms, visions of paradise..
and the promised land of Arcadia....

but it also makes us forget this moment, the here and now...
the here and now of what can I do to make this a better place
then I found it? Not to create paradise, but to make this a better place...

what mechanism do I need to make this place a better place?
not politics or economics, but philosophy? but why philosophy?
because politics and economics cannot give us the most important
answer, which is why? why this course of action and not another.....

well, The desire to be heard and acknowledged is a fundamental aspect of human existence. It's a reminder of the importance of meaningful communication and the impact it can have on our sense of identity and belonging. Kropotkin's reflection on the power of communication to restore our humanity resonates profoundly.
