an uncertain universe....

Post by Peter Kropotkin »

human beings want and really desire a rational, stable,
set universe... and frankly, that isn't what we have...
the problem with this thinking is that the universe
does have, as part of its DNA, is chance, probability,
randomness, and unforeseen events......

at its heart, evolution is about chance and probability....
the very creation of the earth is by chance and probability...
there was nothing certain about its creation just as there
is nothing certain about the creation of life.....
an essential aspect of life is its randomness....
and human beings have a very hard time dealing with that randomness
and chance that play a major role in our existence....

how can we create a philosophy that somehow incorporates
chance and randomness into its core? we know that science is
not fixed and certain, the most set/fixed science is math and
we know from Godel's incompleteness theorems, that
there are limits on math... that to find a complete and consistent
of axioms for ALL mathematics is impossible...and if math
has limits likes this, what about such uncertain things like
life?

the other problem that occurs is that because people cannot find
a theory of everything, ''TOE'' is that they often get frozen in place...
they are unable to move because they can't see what they can go...
if life is incomplete, what does that mean for us? if life is random,
and dictated by chance, how can we plan ahead or think about
what the future can be? if it can all be upended by random events?

the new path is to accept that we cannot, cannot hold to a certain future...
that events can and most likely will be upended by chance and randomness...
we can roll out plans to improve the tax codes, for example,
but we quite often don't see the unintended consequences of that action...
that there is no possibility that we can plan out, work out all consequences
of any or all of our actions... much of what we do, is simply acting on plans
and then hoping for the best... that is much of what life is... hoping for
the best when we act on our plans...

and this uncertainty is quite scary for people...and we must learn to
live within uncertainty... and hold to a philosophy that makes
randomness and probability/chance, a part of our philosophy....
a part of who we are and what is possible for us.....

in a universe that has probability as a major role within it,
we must learn to be part of chance and probability in our lives...

we must accept chance and probability within our politics, our religion,
our philosophy and our history...

do you have the courage to accept chance/randomness/probability
as part of your life? to accept that chance is going to affect you
in ways you can even foresee....
