The physical world is meaningless, meaning is the effects the physical world has upon our biological senses. Our biological experiences of the world are meanings, which we bestow upon the otherwise meaningless world. The world has meaning for a conscious subject because meaning is experience, and is necessary for survival. Yes, existence as the physical world, is in and of itself meaningless.Belinda wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 11:09 amSo , apart from the meaning we bestow upon existence, existence means nothing?popeye1945 wrote: ↑Sun May 21, 2023 10:18 am All meaning is dependent upon personal subjective experience, as knowledge and meaning, that the subject then bestows upon a meaningless world.

This thread has some confusion between epistemic and axiological meaning.

Are you trying to say they are mutually exclusive, or that one does not relate to the other?

Epistemic meaning is a technically correct definition. Axiological meaning is desire for things to be other than they are. There's no inherent connection.

Obviously there would be confusions if we were to conflate Physics and Biology as subjects of knowledge; however both Physics and Biology are the same as a Science.
Both epistemology and axiology are philosophical subjects.
The purpose of philosophy to promote the well-being of the individuals and therefrom humanity.
To do so we need axiology [values of knowledge] otherwise there is nothing objective [quantitative] to progress upon; but for axiology to be effective we need epistemology [structure, processes and mechanics of knowledge].

But what most healthy humans seek from their lives is their futures, when they will eat more or better, enjoy themselves a bit more, rear their children, and maybe even assuage their curiosity, in other words futures are when things will be other than the past.Epistemic meaning is a technically correct definition. Everything has a definition, that's a meaningless "connection". The work they do is of completely distinctive kinds.

All definitions are heuristic devices. "All humans are part and parcel of Reality" is heuristic. All definitions are heuristic. This exercise we are engaged on is for trying to find a coherent description and explanation of Reality.Advocate wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 1:48 pmEverything has a definition, that's a meaningless "connection". Reality is such an enormous and complex idea that we need to look outside conventional definitions and synthesis connections if we can.

Reality is experience of ultimate reality processed through biological consciousness to become apparent reality or the world of objects.Belinda wrote: ↑Mon May 22, 2023 5:37 pmAll definitions are heuristic devices.
