We Used to Know

Whenever I get to feel this way
Try to find new words to say
I think about the bad old days
We used to know

Nights of winter turn me cold
Fears of dying, getting old
We ran the race and the race was won
By running slowly

Could be soon we'll cease to sound
Slowly upstairs, faster down
Then to revisit stony grounds
We used to know

Remembering mornings, shillings spent
Made no sense to leave the bed
The bad old days they came and went
Giving way to fruitful years

Saving up the birds in hand
While in the bush the others land
Take what we can before the man
Says it's time to go

Each to his own way I'll go mine
Best of luck in what you find
But for your own sake remember times
We used to know

I do, frequently. I am consciously glad to have a place to call mine, an electric kettle, and food in the fridge.

Strange isn't it how different we could be if born into some other upbringing where we didn't comprehend what is required for what you just stated. I'm not talking about those in situations outside of typical western opportunity, but those within...circumstances can really screw you up, if you don't prepare for the worst early on, while you can.

Learning how different people live their lives within one's native or adopted society should figure on every school curriculum

Absolutely. There is so much that the school curriculum could do...better...to address shortcomings of comphrehension of what is worthy of pursuit within our shared reality, rather than treating all children the same, some arn't as lucky as us at home, and need that extra wisdom..the sort of thing our grandparents or parents or whoever gave us..that these children are short of hearing...but not short of their potential.

This is a Jethro Tull song. Are you one of its authors? If not, you should probably cite the art of others. It would be a nice and honest thing to do. Otherwise, if you are not one of the authors, those who don't know might wrongly credit you with its authorship.

Did you google it or do you know it?
