^^^ what's so great about this line up is that bruford isn't really a jazz fusion drummer but more of a highly proggresive rock drummer, so he keeps the other guys in the band from getting too crazy with the fusion stuff. his beats keep them grounded but give them plenty of space, etc. there's a uniqueness to this sound too cuz it's not the kind of stuff Holdsworth and Berlin were usually doing, see, so there's a charming weirdness to it once you factor in Buford and the keyboardist. and i must say the album is an incredibly solid experimental result as far as quality fusion is concerned.
'Fainting In Coils' and 'Gothic 17' are other weirdly good ones on that album. Really as long as you prevent Holdsworth from going over the edge in his guitar soloing - and he will if you let me - you can write a decent song with some strangely good alchemy.
