Nice. Here he's singing with the very underrated and tragic Townes Van Zandt.Walker wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2017 12:49 pm Lyle Lovett-Simple Song

Townes Van Zandt. Amazing live sound, and a tiny audience. I think it's in a bar--I read that somewhere.

I love Handel, but there's really no comparison with Bach's mastery of counterpoint.Dubious wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2017 8:44 pmHere's one by that "other" super genius of the Baroque:vegetariantaxidermy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2017 11:29 amOnly one person could do it back then too.Dubious wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2017 3:19 am Going back to the kind of art the human race can no-longer accomplish...

There were two or three songs around that time that exploited the same effect. BTW he's just saying that he's got all the time in the world for his lover.vegetariantaxidermy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2017 12:18 amHaha. I couldn't place the tune and then it finally came to me. As a non Spanish speaker I didn't know what he was saying, I just wanted him to hurry up and start the damn song!Conde Lucanor wrote: ↑Sat Jul 15, 2017 4:02 am Today, it would seem like a parody, but I remember this as a kid, and they took it damn serious.

No one compares to Bach, but this overture from Handel is for me one of the most beautiful ever, specially the counterpoint after the first minute.

No one makes the best out of it as Colin Davis:

Lovely. I love those videos that show the score. Really interesting to read it at the same time as listening, especially counterpoint.Conde Lucanor wrote: ↑Mon Jul 17, 2017 3:41 am No one compares to Bach, but this overture from Handel is for me one of the most beautiful ever, specially the counterpoint after the first minute.

Colin Davis recording of The Messiah is one of the best, no question but there are also the original instrument type performances; this one I find exceptional.

It must have been one incredible experience to have been among the audience not only for the music but also in being surrounded by the frozen music of cathedral architecture each in harmony with the other.Conde Lucanor wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2017 4:11 amI went directly to my favorite tunes.
