Good catch Mark.

Perhaps I meant to say, Though Thrasymachus is a skilled rhetorician he is unable to avoid losing his argument to Socrates.

If that is what you meant?

Still not sure I'm understanding you Mark but I am sure it is safe to say that in whatever way you wish to interpret that sentence would be fine.

so, what is causing that Thrasymachus is unable to avoid losing his argument to Socrates?
universal law? like gravity is causing that i cant avoid falling down if i make my leap of fate from roof top? or is it allmighty god that is forcing socrates to win? or is it accident that socrates wins? or is socrates more skilled if he wins skilled opponent? or is socrates more lucky one?
how hard case can we do this?

Those seem to be very important questions for you.

How am I doing so far?

um, somehow Mark, me thinks you have an answer...and you want to share it.

Please do...

If it were me, I would take the sentence, Though Thrasymachus is a skilled rhetorician he is unable to avoid losing his argument to Socrates, at face value.

Again, Mark, feel free to interpret the sentence in any way that seems fit to you.

I honestly don't know what to add...

A little help here my friend.

why?

ps. if everybody do, as free and honest, like you do your interpreting in a way that seems fit to you, then would there be as many interpretions about that socrates-story as there was interpreters? quite a many in earth? does it sound like relativism?

Bill Wiltrack wrote:Yes Mark.
so, are you relativist then? follower of relativism? is that in a relativist point of view, as good as any ism to follow, like e. g. nazism or bushism? in another words, all points of view are equally valid?
