We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings as something separate from the rest. A kind of optical delusion of consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.

And your solution? As if true then there is no solution is there? Whereas if there is a solution then the thought would be wrong would it not?

Should I answer your plagiaristic questions when you do not answer mine in the first place? Please attribute others words when you use them for your own.Bill Wiltrack wrote:Can you 'own' a 'thought'? What do you mean by a 'thought'?
Still, depends what you mean by "own", so I can't reply to this until you make yourself clear.
By a "thought" I mean a coherent set of images, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings. What do you mean?

By thought I mean a coherent set of images, sounds, smells, tastes and feelings.
Keep in mind the title of this thread is, “You only lose what you cling to.”
If you cling to your thoughts and words what would you loose?
I am you...
Don't be disappointed.
Things will come.
You must first be empty.
Give it time...

!Squawk! !Squawk! Says the plagiarist parrot.
I'm only disappointed that you can't become what you wish. As if I was you I'd be a buddhist given what I've squawked so far.
Still, if being empty is the requirement then you fit the bill well. Be donning the robes and carrying the bowl any time soon? Or will the stein be to attractive.
p.s.
"If you cling to your thoughts and words what would you loose?". If you actually mean "loose" rather than "lose" then what I would loose by clinging to my thoughts and words would hopefully be rationality and reason.

The Zen Master poured his visitor's teacup full, and then kept pouring.
The visitor watched until he could no longer restrain himself. "It is overfull. No more will go in!"
"Like this cup," the Zen Master said, "you are full of your own opinions and assumptions. How can you learn truth until you first empty your cup?"
Your cup is still filled with hate and fear.
I will wait.
I am you.
Do not be afraid.
I will wait for you.

What makes you think you are not looking at my refill? You wouldn't know how to 'empty-cup' if your stein hit you in the head.Bill Wiltrack wrote:The Zen Master poured his visitor's teacup full, and then kept pouring. The visitor watched until he could no longer restrain himself. Nope, this is how you understand the use of the intellect and learning.Your cup is still filled with hate and fear.
Do us a favour and hold your breath at the same time.I will wait. I am you. Do not be afraid. I will wait for you.
Re: 'Zen image' - Hows the yoga going? Can you get into the full lotus yet? As you'll need to if you're going that route. But somehow I think you'll keep missing the point and quoting the words and koans whilst not meditating at the same time. Typical westerner.

We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want.

But its not is it, as if you take the pot away there is no 'emptiness' and nothing can be held. Its the walls of the pot that holds whatever we want, thats why we made it.Bill Wiltrack wrote:We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want.
