Slow Connection or Slow Server?
I don't know if it's the forum server or my Internet connection, however, it's been agonizingly slow navigating the forum the past few days. I'll click on a link and maybe 2 minutes later it will populate my screen. I don't think it's my computer or connection because other sites seem to work fine for me, populating almost instantly.
Is anyone else experiencing extreme time lag trying to navigate the PN forum?

Re: Slow Connection or Slow Server?
It took me 5 minutes to make this post, does that answer your question, Gary?

Hurray! It works!
Re: Slow Connection or Slow Server?
It works for now.
The entire Philosophy Now website was running slow for about 2 or 3 days. Our esteemed webmaster Bora eventually narrowed down the problem to the forum, but we're still not sure of the nature of the problem. Therefore he took the forum offline for about a day to investigate. The rest of the website then returned to its normal speed.
Bora then logged everybody out and this reset appears to have returned the forum to its normal operating speed. But we do not know yet if this is a temporary fix as the speed issue seems to come and go. We may have to take further steps.
Thanks for your patience, everyone.

Re: Slow Connection or Slow Server?
It appeared to be having a problem due to the fact that for several days there was anywhere between 800 and 1500 guests on the forum.
At the peak levels (1200 to 1500) was when it was super slow, and then normal speed again when there was just the usual paltry few of us visiting the site.
Many thanks to Rick and his team for keeping this ad-free forum going for us yahoos to blather our nonsense and act like fools.

Like I said to Flannel Jesus,...
And, again, thank you Rick, for maintaining this forum for us, it is much appreciated. It appeared to be having a problem due to the fact that for several days there was anywhere between 800 and 1500 guests on the forum.

Also, if future action is needed, I hope you will always preserve the site as is, where all members and visitors will always have access to the near 2 decades of posts.

Many thanks! The thing about the v high visitor numbers is worth knowing. I think Bora also spotted this. It does sound significant.

It's slow again. Looks like a lot of users again, 1437 a couple of minutes ago when I looked according to the forum home page.
Are there that many lurkers who aren't posting or is this some kind of denial of service attack?

Re: Slow Connection or Slow Server?
OK. So now the forum is speeding along again and it says 1550+ guests now. Maybe it's not the number of guests but something else that was slowing things down a few minutes ago? Because now there are more guests but it's performing better than it was when there were 1400.

Just a test post

..it could be due to certain embedded external links driving web-traffic this way.. videos, websites, porn-sites lel, etc.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Mon Apr 15, 2024 6:55 am It's slow again. Looks like a lot of users again, 1437 a couple of minutes ago when I looked according to the forum home page.
