Chomsky has it that the war was started not by Russia but by the possibility that Ukraine will be accepted into the NATO Alliance.

Thus far NATO has not agreed to allowing Ukraine to enter the alliance. Maybe it will, maybe it won’t.

Ukraine, for its part, didn’t initiate a war with Russia when the USSR was formed along Ukraine’s border.

Putin is just maniacal enough that he would accept an olive branch only to set it on fire. An authoritarian like Putin cannot be placated. Rather he would consider any attempt at negotiating a peace to be a definite sign of weakness. This would only embolden him to redouble his efforts to conquer Ukraine.

For that reason, the US, through its proxy, Ukraine, should endeavor to crush Russia, take over Moscow, and imprison Putin forever. This must be done swiftly and decisively overwhelmingly in order to prevent China from starting WW III.

The sad truth is that the only language bloodthirsty tyrants like Putin understand is the language of military violence rather than the language of diplomacy. When Putin hears "negotiation", he means Ukraine's capitulation!
