Some thoughts on the chaos at Westminster

Post by Maia »

House of Commons

Ban all political parties. MPs should be elected purely on local issues for their constituency, and should have a strict limit on what they can spend during their election campaign, to prevent rich people from having too much of an advantage. After a general election, all MPs should then have a vote on who among them should be prime minister. As now, the prime minister can call a general election at any time, but to ensure stability, once elected can only be removed by a vote of no confidence.

House of Lords

At a general election, each constituency should also select, entirely at random, one person from the electoral register, who serves until the next general election. Service should be regarded as similar to jury service, and should be compulsory unless there's a very good excuse. It should, however, be well paid in compensation, and afterwards the individual's job should be kept open for them, by law. There should be no more hereditary or appointed members.

Have you noticed how many 'shoulds' there are here?

And, have you ever considered on what these 'shoulds' are relative, or in relation, to, EXACTLY?

They are my opinions. Relative to the current, actual situation.

So, ALL of these 'things' that you think or BELIEVE "others" SHOULD DO is relation to the current and actual situation of one VERY TINY and VERY INSIGNIFICANT part, of the 'world', in one VERY TINY and VERY INSIGNIFICANT moment, in 'time'.

The UK is a major world power, so the collapse of its government is fairly significant.
