What if you only did things which were beneficial to You? What would that look like?

Any individual has the free will do to what s/he wants to do as a normal or mentally ill person.

But what counts are the general moral principles of humanity.

"No man is an island entirely of himself"
thus the necessity of Reciprocal altruism,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reciproca ... _in_humans
  • The concept of ″altruism″ was firstly coined by the French philosopher Auguste Comte in the 19th century, which was derived from the French word ″altruisme″.[3][4] Comte believed that ″altruism″ is a moral doctrine, which is the opposite of egoism, emphasizing the noble morality of sacrificing themselves and benefiting others.

Human beings have both selfish and altruistic motivations, and altruism is used to restrain the egoistical instinct.

How can you tell which 'things' you do will be beneficial to you?

Why can't we choose to do what we want ourselves to choose to do?

who sez we can't or don't?

We really want ourselves to do our homework, but we end up watching x instead.

no, we think we should do our homework, but we really don't want to, so we don't
