Civil war in USA
Civil war in USA
In ca 10-17 hears USA will have civil war, as the social disparity grows too great, too much hate and envy towards the filthy rich explodes and you will have a "French revolution" where the rich get slaughtered!

Re: Civil war in USA
Anyway, civil war and revolution are quite different kinds of conflict. Revolution is not impossible in the US - though it's far less probable than a police state. Civil war, oth, is implausible, since there are no clear geographical divides between potentially hostile entities.
The map with red and blue states depicted on it is misleading. While some states have a history of supporting Republican candidates, and many have Republican state governments, and various states may have conflicting interests and world-views, no population is agreed on any single issue. Certainly, none is deeply enough committed to go to war over it. Trump only got 62% of the popular vote in Alabama - everywhere else, it was an even smaller margin.
In order to have a civil war in America now, you'd have to mobilize the rural communities against the suburbs, university towns against mining towns, inner city against business district.... No clear lines. Which means: unrest; demonstrations; riots, probably; clashes, armed conflict, burning, looting, mass arrests and possibly martial law, but not revolution or civil war.

Re: Civil war in USA
Hyperbole. inequality is rising since 1973, but still not enough for civil war in America.
there are other nations with more inequality - Saudi Arabia, Bahrain (the latter is a powerkeg because the rulers are the minority 20 percent sunni).
those nations will have their civil war long before american will.
Re: Civil war in USA
not sure if you are an ameican, i am. per history the southern 11 states that left the Union did so via state vote (referendum 60/40 to leave), which the 10th amendment allows .Belinda wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:11 amIf trumpism persisted some states would break away from the Union.Impenitent wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:03 am oh it's coming, but who owns the guns? the gun control lefties?

Lincoln used the Article of Confederation to claim no state has the right to leave the union (AoC has no legal standing - unlike my Constitution - inculding the 10th amendment).
also not that Lincoln allowed and affirm part of Virginia to leave - and form West Virgiiia in the middle of the war - so affirmed the 10th and nullified is bogus agruments about the Articles! hypocrisy.
also not that the original 13 colonies joined these united states, with an understanding that joining was voluntary, and so leaving was also.
..............
Trump is a dictator and so would not allow any state to have a reforendum to allow a vote to leave or not. he would just declear them out of the union and his koolaider would appoud. not valuing the Rule of :aw.
Re: Civil war in USA
since the coasts make up most the economy, including handouts to the Red States - and BTW California;s economy is more than all the other states - add NY to that and you - like 120 yrs ago - end up on the losing side.Impenitent wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:31 amyep... the ones that produce food and fuel... the liberal coasties can sink into the oceanBelinda wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:11 amIf trumpism persisted some states would break away from the Union.Impenitent wrote: ↑Thu Nov 12, 2020 11:03 am oh it's coming, but who owns the guns? the gun control lefties?

the divide is not between the states, but between cities and rural.
thanks for your Wisdom! all too rare.

There is still plenty to worry about. The propaganda network that lifted an evil clown onto the platform whence he could throw a six-year-long tantrum on behalf of all the - um - deplorables is not going to be dismantled, nor change its message very much. The invertebrates of the republican party will not suddenly find a rational champion to save them from ignominy: they'll slither to the feet of any old white man who claims he can make them walk again. And, of course, the hateful slogans and ammunition generate a lot of easy revenue for a lot of opportunists.
Like covid-19, the sickness of America is still a long way from a cure - longer, the more people remain in denial.

I think this situation you depict shows education and social mobility depend more on recreation, health care, housing, useful employment, good food, and so forth than what goes on in classrooms.Skip wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 5:19 am There is still plenty to worry about. Re: Civil war in USA
In addition to what happens in schools. School is not merely the classrooms, it's also the playground, sport teams, cafeteria, hallways and principal's office. The same deluded Trump voters who oppose health care, trade union protection, decent housing, fair policing and clean water for their own communities also support crappy school systems where they teach 'creation science', feed the children French - sorry, freedom fries - with ketchup as two vegetables and allow bullying of minorities.
It's been a seriously fucked-up country from its inception, and there is always a powerful interest group to block efforts at improvement.
And yet, and yet.... improvements keep taking place.
There must be an awful lot of very determined good people.

Do qualified educationists not control the curriculums in the USA?Skip wrote: ↑Thu Nov 19, 2020 4:02 pmIn addition to what happens in schools. Re: Civil war in USA
No. Educationists don't control anything in the USA. Let's put it this way: When trump took office, one of his first appointees was a enemy #1 of public education to Secretary of Education. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... -secretary.
Beyond that, schools are under state jurisdiction as to policy and funding, and each district has its elected board of education to decide on things like staffing and textbooks.
And, of course, children's experience in school goes far, far beyond the curriculum.
