Cuties

Post by Nick_A »

I may be old fashioned but regardless still believe there is something not right about trying to make money out of sexualizing 11 year old girls. The dance scenes are really porno. Perverting 11 year olds is wrong but how many know why? So if we don't know, why not make a buck at it. Read how Variety defends it. Can you?

“‘Cuties’ is a social commentary against the sexualization of young children,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement to Variety. “It’s an award-winning film and a powerful story about the pressure young girls face on social media and from society more generally growing up — and we’d encourage anyone who cares about these important issues to watch the movie.”

I remember my first trip back to the US, from the UK, after a long absence having left as a child. It was about 1980, and remember seeing a Jordache Jeans advert on TV in which pre-pubescent girls covered in make-up were parading like $100 hookers. A paedos dream.
I suppose the UK advertising authority would have thought it tasteless, as there was nothing of the kind in the UK.
Don't get me wrong - I am not in any sense prudish. I just thought this was f*cking insane. Let kids have a bloody childhood. Don't groom them for abuse.

I've not seen Cuties.
I am aware that Americans put small girls into "beauty pageants" dressed as women covered in make-up. It's almost as if notions of sexual equality and women's oppression had completely passed-by middle America.

I think it's tasteless, but I don't know if it has any adverse effects on the kids who appear in such shows, or on the kids who watch them. I have no idea why an adult would watch such utter crap.

Depraved perverts get turned on by a fish in a shop window. Depravity is depravity and tasteless clothing isn't going to make any difference. Mothers who listen to their instincts can recognise 'the look' a stranger can give their child. It's not a pleasant look either. It's a malevolent, stomach-churning look. 'Paedophile' is a misnomer. Those scum don't love children.

That said, actual child-rapists must be delighted at the diluting of the word that people use to describe them. Apparently it now means 'any 'mature' man who is attracted to consenting young women'.

Children are very receptive to ideas. These pageants teach pride to a few and disappointment to many. But to all those girls they learn to judge that a woman is only as good as hers looks.

Experiencing the darkness, the negative shadow depraved side of beingness is our only path back to the Godhead from which we unknowingly separated.

No harm ever comes to the divine you...and that all abusive harm exists only within the dream of separation of which infinite experiences be they acts of evil or acts of good must be experienced in order to know thyself as the knowing divine.

Be like a child to enter the kingdom of heaven.

“Trust children. Nothing could be more simple, or more difficult. Difficult because to trust children we must first learn to trust ourselves, and most of us were taught as children that we could not be trusted.” ~ John Holt

“The first step of the journey is the admission of powerlessness. It is where no one wants to go and no one will go voluntarily. We have to be led there through our own failure and experience of death. In men’s work, we call it the Great Defeat. Franciscans call it poverty. The Carmelites call it nothingness. The Buddhists call it emptiness. The Jews call it the desert. Jesus calls it the sign of Jonah. The New Testament calls it the Way of the Cross. We’re all talking about the same necessary step.” ~ Richard Rohr

Who was it that said "the only difference between art and porn is the lighting. Cuties is a child porn movie calling itself art to make money. Watch the final dance scene. Is it art or child porn? Why is everyone cheering? What is wrong with it? If you do feel something is wrong with it, is it because you've been indoctrinated or is their something objectively wrong which you still are able to feel?

It's neither. Call it porn if you like, but then you won't have a strong enough word left when you come across genuine porn.

Why is everyone cheering?
So that we -the audience- will buy into the idea that this kind of superficial attention seeking is a worthy pursuit in life.
Nick_A wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 4:21 pm
What is wrong with it?
You instinctively feel that it's bad for the kids who are performing, and bad for the kids who are watching. But I can't make a meaningful comment on that; I'm not a psychologist.

We absorb our sensibilities and sense of propriety from the society we are part of. That's not indoctrination, it is normal human nature. As for what I feel: Mild revulsion; there's a creepy incongruity about kids who look and behave like that.

If true, what is the attraction to pedophilia which the movie wants to profit from? Why did so many go to Jeffrey Epstein's Lolita Island? Unless we begin to understand the purpose of sex energy, in this climate the result will be more pedophiliacs and people making money off of them at the expense of young lives. The cost of ignorance.

It is indoctrination. We are indoctrinated by society to act in certain ways which offer us "meaning." We sacrifice our calling to objective meaning by adopting the subjective meanings of the world we live in. Plato called it living in Plato's cave.

I think the sponsors of the movie will be quite impartial about whose money they take at the box office.

While this stuff may well feed paedophilia, what evidence is there that it creates it? We both disapprove of it, Nick, although you more so than I, I suspect, but let's stick to the truth, or at least known facts, when we condemn it.

Heard of it. Brooke Shields, Keith Carradine, and Susan Sarandon.
Don't blame the messenger!
