Can good God do evil?

Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

Can good God do evil?

Post by bahman » Mon Sep 09, 2019 6:27 pm

Does good God have the ability to do evil? If yes, is His evil act justifiable just because He is God?

Contradiction.
If a God is claimed to be good, then, such a God cannot be claimed to be evil.
(btw, God is an impossibility to be real)

The question is will an omnipotent and omni-benevolent God create good and evil acts.
Note the Problem of Evil, that a supposedly omni-benevolent God is indifferent to the natural catastrophes since eons that generate terrible suffering to humankind, is itself evil.

Nothing is being evil. The belief there is something being evil is what evil is.

Nothing is believing that.

The question requires the hearer to believe that "evil" is the same thing as "what God could do." In other words, it presupposes a division between God and good, and a grounds outside of the nature of God from which we could pass judgment on the goodness or evilness of His character.

But if He's the Creator, He's the Definer of the concept of good. There is no grounds outside of what we know of good from God's nature, upon which we could stand in order to pass such a judgment. In point of fact, we literally could not have a concept called "good" outside of His nature, since our knowledge of good is derivative, not original.

And, at the same time, good, when we understand it aright, is defined by compatibility with His nature. Good, for us, is "likeness to the character of God." We have our concept "good" from God.

To put it in other terms, if we try to answer this question, then we are trying to sit in judgment on the objective, universal good, while standing somewhere else; which therefore has to be somewhere that has no objective reality and no moral authority. So how do we even ask it?

The question, therefore, presupposes an error. The minute we try to answer it on the terms suggested, we've already participated in the asker's mistake.

The two questions combined are NOT a contradiction at all. Also, where was a claim about God to be evil? What a thing does is not necessarily what it is.

Does good God have the ability to do evil? The answer is just simply no. Therefore, the other question is just moot.

If you say so. Is that an absolute irrefutable True fact, to you?

No.

An omnipotent and omnibenevolent God creates good acts. Whereas, human beings create evil acts.

Why do some human beings think/believe that they are somehow so important in the scheme of things?

If it was not for perfectly natural events, which some human beings call "catastrophes", then human beings would not even be here in the first place and existing now.

Events do not cause suffering to "humankind". Human beings make up a perception of suffering and another one of "terrible suffering". As if suffering was not bad enough human beings had to make up the term "terrible suffering".

"Suffering" is just a relatively new phenomena brought about by, and for, human beings only. (Now this should evoke and bring about some challenging questions).

Of course there are grounds! Humans are morally superior to God.

No, we won't.

If you pulled out your head and read 1st testament, then there's NOTHING but evil there, not hugging and talking about things, giving out lands that already belongs to others, annihilating cities just because they dared want to have sex with strangers, even Lot's wife got killed in the fury, empowering Samson that fucked up everything.

Always choosing bad leaders, refusing the jews to grow big so they could fend for themselves, but force them to rely on miracles of god.

Only the son was a bit nicer.

I said whether God can do evil and not God being evil.

God himself declared in the Bible that He is the creator of good and evil while being a good God.

What do you mean with nothing? I cannot follow your first statement.
