Fodder 'n' Frivolities: a complaint against Spectacle Society

Post by doolhoofd »

Howdy y'all,
I'd like to present a work of mine that I've been silently puzzling on for the last five years.
What I would really appreciate is for you guys to point out any errors or faults in or with the text, since my aim is to improve it even further.
But any discussion is welcome.
You can find the essay at https://www.doolhoofd.com

A great read! I can tell you put a lot of time, energy, and thought into this. And I'm glad you used the word "evil" at the end to describe this virtual reality that, similar to The Matrix film, gives us a pretty but false fiction to live in while the actual world had long been destroyed. The only thing that was missing was the who. You define what has happened as evil, the pornography of hyper-visibility that makes us insensitive, even psychopathic, searching for our next fix of gross high-definition junk to slowly rot the brain. But as addicts, we don't realize our minds and souls are slowly being sucked out of us. Who would want to do such a thing? You must admit that this campaign to rot the mind is highly organized and persistent. Things don't happen by accident on the large scale, because there are people and spirits seeking power. I found The Protocols of the Elders of Zion interesting. I think once you explore the who involved in dumbing down and incapacitating the masses, then your essay will be more complete.

Well, thanks, glad you liked it, but I sincerely doubt it's a Jewish conspiracy.

You're asking a lot of the reader. I would have replied to a summary but am not inclined to read the whole essay. Not many will do this.

Okay; a teaser, then.
Paragraph sixteen of the essay, which deals with new cinema technologies.
Paragraphs twelve to seventeen deal with contemporary cinema.

16) These days they're even adding a third, fourth and fifth dimension to the pellicule. Technological novelties to intensify the cinematic experience are piling up while film is slowly being converted into an UHD virtual reality in an explicit drive for an ever heavier hit of the medium and an ever deeper submersion of the spectator into the nonsense. The sound tapes are already blasted through you in three hundred and sixty degrees Dolby Surround. 4DX: moving chairs with vibrating cushions, the added props of water and wind and scent and light! Laser Ultra 3D: more clarity, more color, more realism, móre detail! The Image Maximum a.k.a. IMAX experience: an even bigger screen and an even more advanced stereophonics of the sound! OMNIMAX: film on a dome that covers your entire field of vision! Or Barco Escape, "the best immersive cinema experience ever: by combining three projectors with three screens - one in front and one on each side - an impressive panoramic image is created that completely sucks the audience in." The trend is easy to detect: more medium, less content - and premium pricing! Much ado about nothing: what's the use of all those gaudy gimmicks and tawdry take-ins when the picture is pudding-brained pulp? But the thirst for simulations appears to be an urge that's becoming more urgent every day. Monster movies with monster budgets on monster screens: hyper-spectacular monstrosities that far surpass all of Baudrillard's predictions.

People don't have time to read about what is destroying them.

Is the OP about never being destroyed, i.e., eternal life?

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's destroying people.
Seduction doesn't destroy, it merely distracts.
Okay, in the case of junk food, it's different.
But watching a movie has never destroyed anyone, I think.

Great article, well defined.

Improvements? It defines the negative, the problem...define a solution or what is being lost.

Positives and Negatives.

People gain their identities by what they assume.

This assumption is the grounds for awareness.

This awareness in turn, through assumption, in turn takes the form of what is assumed (ie we become what we meditate on).

The awareness of multiple images causes a division in the inhernet nature of assumption. With the division of assumption comes the division of focus, hence identity.

Without an identity people's minds become disturbed, causing an inhernet disturbance of value placement that reciprocates and magnifies over time.

Distraction is psychic death, with eventually reverberate to empirical suffering and death due to fragmented value placement.

Sound Mind, sound values. Disturbed mind, disturbed values.

Value is the continuum of a perspective that allows us to cultivate an inherent sense of order and balance.

The continual repetition of images and sensations disturbs our ability to not just maintain values internally, due to the inability and reflect, but also exert those values as well.

It's impossible to do both in the scope of one article.

Then create a new article, a polar one. You obviously have the writing skills for one, why stop there?

Thanks again for the compliment, but seriously, you have no idea how much time and effort it cost me to write this one.
Finding all those quotes and giving form to your own original ideas is hard work, let me tell you.
Plus, I have no intention to say anything positive about the Spectacle Society we are living in.
I'll leave that to someone else, someone who has the necessary positive inspiration for that task.

That's why you should write it...your work has quality.

You dont have to write something positive about society, you have to write something about what is true and good.

Give it time, you will think of something.
