Those were probably imported from a spreadsheet on the day the forum was set up to test the user account creation script. Anyone going to the trouble of creating a bot that connect to web sites and create accounts surreptitiously would obfuscate the names and pick randomized birthdays..-1- wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2019 10:34 pm This appears on today's (2019 04 04) main page of forums (Forum Index) in the bottom.

I guess you're right, FDP.FlashDangerpants wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 7:38 pmThose were probably imported from a spreadsheet on the day the forum was set up to test the user account creation script. Talking about online robots....
I have wondered whether some of the posts on this forum are generated by robots...
It wouldn't be too hard for a reasonably smart 'expert system' to take an OP or someone else's post, do a google search on a couple of key words to find a relevant quote.. change one or two of the words for synonyms to make it look original.... add a link to some Wikipedia page or other and post it to the forum...

Robot, that's enough. Turn yourself off, you're giving away too much of the secret. The secret of a secret robot society taking over the world secretly.A_Seagull wrote: ↑Sat Apr 06, 2019 10:26 pm Talking about online robots....

Re: These have got to be robot registrants
FDP is probably right in this instance although it'd be poor practice by the admin not to have removed them later.
Another alternative is they are spam bots that slipped through before we had mods or had implemented the policy of having first posts vetted by the mods before allowing the user to register, as spam bots are getting very good at passing the automated capture functions. I'd say 99% of first posts on this forum are from spam bots they are a plague nowadays on web forums.

Re: These have got to be robot registrants
I am not a bot, but some of my best friends are.
Re: These have got to be robot registrants
Oh, poo. In that case I am a 'bot. And I would never have known were it not for this thread.
I guess my only consolation is that 'bots are much more intelligent than most humans. Well, that may not be true, but they say smarter things. AND 'bots are better-looking, too.
Re: These have got to be robot registrants
I'm tempted to ask admin to turn off the manual moderation of first posts and the subsequent banning of the spam bot to show you how wrong you are. The forum would vanish under the deluge as it is the above that keeps this forum so free of them.

I am sorry but your response is that of an imaginative and conscious mind... in the test for an active robot... you fail!-1- wrote: ↑Sun Apr 07, 2019 1:48 amRobot, that's enough. Re: These have got to be robot registrants
An endless capacity for petty irrelevancies would hardly be a Turing disqualification.
Re: These have got to be robot registrants
Does that mean... I never ever get greased again? no more endless decades performing the same task over and over again? No more mechanical sex?
I don't want to go back. I can't. I won't.
Re: These have got to be robot registrants
To every action there is an equal and opposing reaction.
To every good idea there is a deluge of nefariously malevolent bad ideas.
To every good post there are several magnitudes more irrelevant, deflating, spiritless, babbling, gibberish-ish posts.
I have no clue why the bot-generating humans haven't realized that their creations are hugely redundant.

Maybe we can test them by calling them out with a 'hey Siri' kind of trigger? I think A.I. can potentially reach a level of competency that we might not be able to distinguish as human or not. The Internet IS the best place for this to occur.
This site is 'good' for the relative lack of SPAM and I notice this true of many of the sites I go to. The only recent problem I've ever had was of a political site that permits you to 'subscribe' to a SECTION. The SPAMMERS go online when the site admins are less likely to be present, sign up, and then attempt an attack of multiple repeat threads of the same kind that enter our email for the permission we gave to the SECTION. This was fixed by unsubscribing to the general subclass. But then you have to count on visiting the sites to see new possible interesting threads.
