Kenneth Shouler is an idiot. If he has not got the insight and needs to ask the question "why we watch sports" esp. vis-a-vis the finiteness of life, then this is a forced (obvious and inescapable) conclusion. (Also, death is a conditional in his world -- he does not believe he is going to die. What a surprise awaits him!)

Little wonder this piece of writing has been sitting on the shelf for 16 years, and no publisher wanted to touch it in the interim, since the article reeks of stupidity. I don't know what has possessed Philosophy Now editors to go for it, but hey, it's their paper, not mine.
