"Emotional porn" bigger than real porn?

Post by QuantumT »

After years of observing both standard and social media, I have noticed a disturbing shift in popularity and attention during the latest years.

The issues in mind are, not only, emotional stories based on insignificant actions and gestures, but also mass mourning about small or big tragedies.

It seems to have become a modern signature of a good person to display grief and other feelings online. And by doing it you are "patted on the back" by your fellow "grievers", and included in "the good peoples club".

Has this, basically "emotional porn", become bigger than real porn?

That's the young jostling to establish their pecking orders, as they must. Poor bastards.

While ageing is a physically horrid process, one beautiful aspect of getting on is being freed from having to play the "good person" game, allowing us to focus on more interesting things. Age brings us the Ace card in social games. If anyone tries to draw you into a "good person" game you can play "grumpy old turd" card and the problem goes away with no harm done :)

'Good person game'. Otherwise known as 'Political Correctness'. But you have to make sure your faux grief is for some fashionable cause, or for a person with a fashionable disease or disability. That's not to say it's wrong to feel sad over the misfortune of others; what's wrong is being 'faux sad' for the sake of appearances. The PC are actually horrible people who are envious of the genuinely good and desperately want to appear that way themselves but don't know how to pull it off, so they opt for whatever trendy cause they can pretend to care about. This is why they always come across as disingenuous and nauseating, and show their nasty side at the slightest sign that you can see through their painfully transparent facade. Projection is their MO of choice. They are also rubbish debaters and avoid it like the plague. Their idea of 'debate' is to drag the 'r' word out of its death bed at every opportunity, thus hoping to silence their tormentors and free themselves from pesky distractions like logic, reason, and rational thinking. They tend to have no depth of knowledge on any subject they claim to care about.
Beware of the PC. They are mob players, and will gleefully join the mob to rip your throat out if that's what the latest 'mob trend' is.

Agree with the above.

I believe it is due to blind empathy and compassion.
Note the recent ECHR case,
The Strasbourg-based ECHR ruled Thursday that Austrian courts had “carefully balanced her right to freedom of expression with the right of others to have their religious feelings protected.”

I note the current trend is towards stupidity arising from blind empathy rather than a rational direction and balanced application of compassion. This trend is reflected from the acts of the extreme left in blind empathy especially toward Islam [with a hidden devil within] as in the above court and many other cases and instances.

Antifa and others of the left [even posters here] are using threats and violence to stop rational debates and critiques because they empathize [blindly] with their perceived victims.
The irony is the victims they are trying to protect, especially Islam [the trojan horse] is claiming to be the most superior ideology over everyone's else.

Current the left [in general] is pro-immigration [open borders] without consideration of the impact of its negative consequences in the short and long run.

You don't get it at all. The PC don't have 'blind empathy', it's all show. They like to appear 'tolerant' and bleat on about it, lecturing us on our 'need for tolerance' of islam, yet those same people are perfectly fine with their soldiers slaughtering muslims in their own countries. You never hear a whimper out of them about THAT!
Fuck the PC, the most loathesome pond-scum on the planet (apologies to pond scum).

This part is a standout:
In April 2015, writing in The Spectator, British author James Bartholomew used the term to describe public, empty gestures intended to convey socially approved attitude without any associated risk or sacrifice.

This article supports your view from another angle.

The woke go broke

“The protest against political correctness – against what Douglas Murray has defined neatly as ‘the gap between what people think and what they believe they are meant to think’ – is well underway. It’s largely a silent protest, but no less effective for it, and it’s occurring in the privacy of the places in which we make our consumer choices.

“Maher, in this respect, was only spelling out to liberal America a truth already increasingly – and grimly – recognized by corporate America, which is to say: get woke, go broke.”

get woke, go broke.”

Particularly 'yuk' yanklish.

Is it saying that being enlightened loses you money? Typical PC conceit, that they are the 'enlightened' of modern society. The article is confusing. Or does it mean, 'Wake up, OR you will go broke' ? (A different meaning ENTIRELY), in which case he could have at least put an 'or' in there (and people say that grammar doesn't matter). What the fuck does it mean, 'The woke go broke'??? That's just horrible!
I mean seriously, how many Americans, the stupidest people on the planet, understand what PC even means? Heck, the morons don't even understand what 'liberal' means (and they are the ones always droning on about their 'freedom')

Here's what Maher says (he seems to understand PC, but even he doesn't know what 'liberal' means):

'Citing a recent survey, Maher told his audience: ‘Eighty percent of Americans find political correctness to be a problem, including 75 percent of African Americans, 74 percent of Americans under thirty, 82 percent of Asians, 87 percent of Hispanics and 88 percent of Native Americans.

‘If you’re not a statistician, let me break those numbers down for you: nobody likes you, including the so-called marginalized groups whose feelings you’ve decided need protecting.’

I agree. The growth of commercialism and materialism has led to the glorification of the emotional lie. That is a form of porn; the cheapening of human quality.

Maher didn't make that 'quote', and he didn't write the article.
'Woke' is not an expression I'm familiar with. Do you know what it means?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woke

Oh. I see now. It's yet another political movement. The article makes sense now.

It means that corporations will act PC for the sake of PR, but only so far, unless they are insane ideologues.

For instance, when Donald Trump was elected president, the CEO of Camping World, which has bought up a lot of mom and pop RV retailers in the US, declared that Camping World did not want the business of Trump supporters.

What a silly man.
