The Truth
The Truth
As I have grown older (or more mature) I have come to hate the term "truth" more and more.
I think it might be the one most abused word ever, and yet it holds the highest standard for a majority of people.
For religious people, the truth is in the scriptures. Most others consider them fairy tales.
For laymen the truth comes from respected medias and the courts. The judges and jurys decide the truth.
The scientists find the truth in common consensus. If they can agree, it's the truth.
The question is: Does any of us know the truth? Or even a fraction of it?

Re: The Truth
The Truth is out there. It does exist.
We know the truth. The truth is many things, for example it is true that you just did post this topic.
It is also true I replied.
Furthermore, it is true that the universe exist. We can know the truth by investigating it and doing scientific experiments using the scientific method where assumptions are tried and replicating the same effects again and again and again. If everyone with the same technological facilities can replicate any given cause and effect, it is the Truth.
Science holds the Truth, the only truth. But it is a great misunderstanding that Science knows the whole truth.
Science has a lot of explanations that are not tested or verified. This is known as a hypothesis. A theory is a well-documented hypothesis backed by strong evidence, but not yet fully proven.
Darwinian Evolution was a theory at the time of Darwin, but today it is The Truth. It is no long a theory. It is firmly established. What we do miss are the details - ie. how life began and the details on how humans evolved from its ancestors etc. But it is firmly established that God did not create man.

Re: The Truth
It is always controversial when we start with 'the truth.'
Philosophically speaking, the truth is always qualified and conditioned to some specific Framework and System of Truth.
Therefore the first thing when one come across the term 'truth' in the philosophical perspective [preferably all perspectives] then one must immediately [no exception] identify the relevant Framework and System of Truth it is conditioned within.
There are many types of Framework and System of Truth, theological, Scientific, social, political, legal, economics, etc.
For example within the theological Framework and System, all theists will insist God exists in is true.
However, most theists are ignorant they are claiming that truth within a specific theological Framework and System. Driven by a psychological compulsion, they insist that is the absolute truth.
Within the philosophical perspective the specific theological Framework and System must be taken into account and their principles, assumptions and limits must be examined.
Scientific truths are conditioned within the Scientific Framework and System comprising Scientific Method, peer review and various processes as agreed by the scientific community. Popper asserted scientific truths are at best 'polished conjectures' but they are objective and useful [along with the cons].
That fact that Roger Federer won the US Open in 2017 is not an absolute truth but only a qualified truth conditioned upon the Framework and System set up by the ATP.
The truth that X is a murderer is conditioned upon the specified Framework and System of the country's legal system that found him guilty.
The issue of truth is when there is a disagreement.
In this case the credibility of whatever truth will have to rely on its degree of objectivity. At present one of the more objective truths are scientific truths [even though they are fundamentally polished conjectures] due to it characteristics of anyone can test and verify the truth as claimed.
I believed the most reliable truth is one that is based on the Scientific Framework & System plus reinforced with philosophical critical thinking.
Therefore all truths are relative and qualified truths as conditioned within a specific Framework and System of Truth.
Thus when the topic of truth is raised, look immediately for its specific Framework & System and also any dependent Framework and System.

Re: The Truth
That is wonderfully precise.
Within the frame, everyone knows the truth, as distinct from uncertainty and lies when told.
What one does with the knowledge of the truth, such as whether to express it or act upon it, goes to intent.

That - is - utter - BULLSHIT!
Whether one has murdered or one has not murdered is an objective truth.
Regardless of our knowledge or the judicial decisions about who murdered.
The truth is there regardless of our framework and system.
That we may not know the truth, is evidence of ignorance (and stupidity) - not lack of any objective truth!

Why are you suing yourself? Wouldnt it be easier to settle, or talk it out?

"truth [trooth]
noun, plural truths [trooth z, trooths] /truðz, truθs/.
1) the true or actual state of a matter: He tried to find out the truth.
2) conformity with fact or reality; verity: the truth of a statement." --dictionary.com--
That's the way I see it!
The truth is that the earth is a spheroid.
The truth is that all humans are born and shall eventually die.
Do you want more?

You seem to be very ignorant of what is going on in the legal community within the world.
There are many cases where a killer is charged as a murder in the lower courts but found to be innocent in the higher or appeal courts.
Many 'murders' charged >20-30 years ago have been proven to be innocent when new evidence from DNA were introduced.
Certain acts of killing may be not charged as 'murder' in a different court from another nation.
A person who killed in the name of God will be innocent under Shariah Law but will be charged as a murderer in a secular court.
Re: The Truth
..sigh!!
If we can put a man on me moon, if we understand behaviour through psychology, if we have spin doctors etc etc that can manipulate the masses then people knows the truth, a piece of the greater puzzle.

Re: The Truth
The problem isn't that nobody knows the truth, it's that there are many truths and each with their own appeal.
