fair enough. we'll let history play out. i leave all things to it - the long view.

Walker wrote: Mon Jul 30, 2018 8:57 am Say, have you noticed pop music’s recurring theme of Man entreating God?
You can hear it in darn near every tune.

I stopped listening to "pop" with the death of rock and rise of rap in mid 90's. listening to "only everything" (1994 Julianna Hatfield) - seemed only a couple of weeks ago her stuff was on the radio and "pop" mainstream music ;-/..............and now all i have are 500 CDs of "dead rock" from the 60's to 90's.

- still "minor league rockers - niches, Tacocat, Lake street dive, black mountian, white denom..............but no airplay outside of KEXP (paul allen is kewl for a former Microsoft CEO - owns KEXP - check thier YT channel for concerts).

good voice, don;t know the singer though.

like book of Job - my third fav on the OT - Amos is my fav, then Jonah then Job.

I like the themes of all three:

Pride is sin, Tribalism is a sin, Humility is a virtue respectively.

fav part of Jonah are the pagan fishermen acting more godly than the lazy stupid and sleeping "prophet" Jonah during the storm. jonah was written around 250 BC - a century or two after Ezra - which it is opposed to.

??? dn;t follow, but welcome your views - even a thread on such (not seen you in any of the "Religion" sections here). I have an interest in relgion as an atheist that value moral themes, i'm old school Paul Carus 19th cent atheist. these new atheists are full of shit - never read the bible and just "Shout fire" for the fk of it. they are anti-religion, unlike me.

I really love Sandy Denny - being American never heard of her - but found via usenet bineries 18 yrs ago (and bought many DVD of since).

and played her (and Fariport Convention (she was lead singer of that group)) many times on my "micro-radio" station for my neighbors over the years.

hey Walker i noted your link to Mckinnet!

she is great! have most of her CD, love "Marco Polo" myself.

celtic-arabic, great combo.

BTW if you like that type of fusion - check out the more arabic-ish soundtrack to the greatest PC game series (first three at least) of all time.

Homeworld/cataclysm/homeworld 2 soundtracks.

Never got into gaming. Probably missing a lot. It sounds religious.

Gaming and religion sounds, religious devotion of attention.
The worship gene just has to express.

Arvo is magnificent with silence and human voices.

nor i, just note the cream of the crop (like music/etc (all of the arts). the heyday of PC games - per artistic liberty was in the mid to late 90's - when PC's are low in number and the democraphic was educated/artistic (not twits/facebkers then).

at that time there were small gaming companies that had an appreciation of the arts (just read the manual - history of the Kushan via the original Homeworld (these small outfits employed English/history majors JUST to write a backstory of the actual game!!!!!!!!! (and a damn nice backstory!) - and utterly irrelivant to the game itself per actual gameplay (but vital for the "Ethos" - spirit of the "greater vision" of the game.

Homeworld (the original is best - the two latter are still excellent though) IS 2001 A Space Odyssey equivalent.

it really is a work of art.

other games - 5-10 of that time are also pretty good.

later - like in all things (like for all the arts - movies/music/etc)..the suits smell the money - merger mania happens and the result afterward is below standard and not art in any shape or form.

sadly.

refer above - outside of hacking the registry/etc to get those older games (when they were made by small outfits with passion) to work. there has been not good games/music/movies(pwer movies only some indies and some foreign remain decent today) in these last 20 yrs.

so no, not missing out Sir.

sadly.

yes, Homeworld series has both an underdog and religious mythos "save my people in a hostile universe".

its great stuff.

i miss the loss of the artist in games/music and movies myself.

but ok with watching old a sht stuff from 50 yrs ago - great then as now.

"nothing but a man" late 60's movie - about the human condition as black persons living in the south (without being preachy - just honest and bleak - hell when the protagonist pushes his pregant wife/insults her "uncle tom" father - you know he is part right (but wrong - her dad is not a worm. but chose is daughter and self dissrespect over pride/self respect.....................where the protagonist - also an equally good guy (but younger and so less wise than his father in law), refuses to lose self respect, and holds on to his pride - with a cost (too much of? - maybe/maybe not) .

movies like the above are NOT made today - and as long as the audience demands excapism instead of affilaition with the characters on screen ("what would i do?") in real world circumstances - expect more fluff and no art from movies.

"August evening" indie movie of 2007? is nearly a good and also about the same human condition - from the latino perspective.
