I found this article very disappointing. It's based on a thought experiment about in impossible brain surgery; and talks about the outcomes which are naturally unknowable.
It using this to talk about a completely different type of identity question; that of David Bowie's dramatic creation of his on stage characters.
David Bowie is not a case for talking about brain surgery

A completely pointless article. As far as I can see, the incorporation of David Bowie is just an attempt to make what would have otherwise been a mind numbing piece of writing interesting.Hobbes' Choice wrote:https://philosophynow.org/issues/118/Wi ... e_stand_up

Re: David Bowie is not a case for talking about brain surgery
i found the article to be dissapointing and a waste of time also.
it is much ado about nothing.
I think we all want to know whether or not consciousness would enter which brain and why.
And we want real science.
Litterally cutting someones brain in half and then interviewing them.
Its like you want substance in a movie. Movies aren't made for free. They require actual substance, work put into them. Not just words and a screenwrite.

The surgery destroyed the brain, and therefore no one exists. End of story.

If anyone wanted to properly marry brain salad surgery to pop/rock music, then it ought to have featured Emerson, Lake and Palmer.
