Is there such a thing as a merciful death?
Re: Is there such a thing as a merciful death?
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn't seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, "My friend is dead! What can I do?" The operator says, "Calm down. I can help. First, let's make sure he's dead." There is a silence; then a gun shot is heard. Back on the phone, the guy says, "OK, now what?

Have you set a date yet?
Re: Is there such a thing as a merciful death?
When doctor-assisted dying is available in the UK we will be able to set the date when we want to set it. At this time we are at the mercy of cruel and protracted dying procedures.
Stop the religious bosses legislating for all of us ordinary people!

The upside is, what's the worst they could do if you're late for the date. Kill you?Belinda wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 11:49 amWhen doctor-assisted dying is available in the UK we will be able to set the date when we want to set it. The legal fees might get expensive. The state could sue the euthanasia place, on the behalf of greiving children, for allowing the bread winner/ legal gardian to end his life and thus their support.
Of course the state would be responsible for the welfare of the children! Omg!! A republicans worst nightmare!!!

Re: Is there such a thing as a merciful death?
I understand that dying at Dignitas costs about £9,000. Not everyone who wants to die when they choose has so much money. Dignitas is good, however the journey has to be accomplished while there is enough strength left, which necessitates dying earlier than one would want.

Second laugh within ten minutes .I know it's not strictly ethical but one could always take out a loan.

Exactly! The current laws are incredibly inhumane, putting people who are at their most vulnerable in horribly difficult situations.Belinda wrote: ↑Fri Sep 15, 2017 10:31 pmI understand that dying at Dignitas costs about £9,000. People should be able to leave instructions so that if they reach the point they dread then their loved ones can help them without the trauma of unfair and cruel legal hassle.
