That is where I got in trouble and eventually got fired from the job, it wasn't that I wasn't good at drawing, but I wouldn't kiss ass, so I didn't fit in with everyone else.
An education worth dying for.

I imagine one of the advantages of working for a crane is that your employer is in a good position to give you a raise.
Sounds like a really exciting job, doc, what an interesting guy you are.I pointed out that the proper way to spec. for flanged wheels on rails, was to specify the gauge of the rails and let everything else up to the contractor.

I have a scientist's POV. In science you must have assumptions to start with, but can modify when there is evidence to do so.
In sales, to the present day, assumptions exist which have no basis in reality and actually hinder sales. For example it's assumed that there are natural-born salesmen. I know for a fact that it isn't so and I have easily trained others to increase their sales (plus me). The method is so effective it can create new monopolies which I have no desire to do, otherwise industries and competition would vaporize within a year.
There are many stories behind this. I can say my eyes are opened wide.

From the content of his posts, I doubt that he graduated HS, and he got all his education from MAD Magazine.

I would think that we, and almost everyone else would agree with that.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:42 pmIf so doc, I would say there's room for substantial improvement.

We can't all be experts on flanged wheels, Phil.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:42 pm I would say there's room for substantial improvement.

Did you know part of a flanged wheel is always moving backwards while the train moves forward?Harbal wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:47 pmWe can't all be experts on flanged wheels, Phil.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:42 pm I would say there's room for substantial improvement.

And did you know the top part of the wheel is moving faster than the bottom part of the wheel?Harbal wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:59 pmYes but did you know part of a flanged wheel is always moving forwards while the train moves backwards?Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 10:52 pm

I never really thought about it, Phil, and if you don't mind, I don't really want to start thinking about it now.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:03 pm

Good ol’government school system.
The kid in the picture certainly looks "horrified", as the caption says.

Did you know that railroad wheels have a flange and a tapered tread, and the flange rarely touches the rail head. With a tapered thread the wheel centers itself on straight sections, and only on the sharpest curves does the flange touch the rail.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:14 pmNo problem Harb.Harbal wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:12 pmI never really thought about it, Phil, and if you don't mind, I don't really want to start thinking about it now.Philosophy Explorer wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2017 11:03 pm

During the late 80's one model Mfg. had the bright idea to make their treads flat while everyone else was using a tapered tread. It didn't last long till they figured out what they did wrong and corrected it.
You're welcome for the headache it may have caused.
