The Philosophy of John Lennon
What is it like to be a Beatle? Gary Tillery argues that Lennon’s pronouncements, both cynical and idealistic, reveal a sincere and original thinker.

Yes good old john lennon the spiky beatle definitely a history maker with attitude which made him stand out. Reckon he would have chilled a bit by now.
Re: The Philosophy of John Lennon
Love.Love.love by the beatles. One of the best records of all in my humble opinion.

I haven't read the article, but I think I can still make a comment that has merit.Philosophy Now wrote:What is it like to be a Beatle? Gary Tillery argues that Lennon’s pronouncements, both cynical and idealistic, reveal a sincere and original thinker.

At least some, and probably quite a lot of the wisdom that is attributed to John Lennon should actually be attributed to LSD.
Without exception, anyone tripping on LSD becomes an original thinker.

It would be interesting to read how folks would account for the clear-as-daylight time dilation that occurs under influence of LSD.
I doubt there are any constants in such circumstances.

Yeah the constant is always in the present. No matter what.

Re: The Philosophy of John Lennon
Nice Article and observations, like:
"What if we accomplished the hardest transformation of all and overcame our possessiveness? Notice that Lennon says imagining no Heaven is “easy if you try” and imagining no countries “isn’t hard to do,” but as for imagining no possessions, “I wonder if you can.” Wouldn’t much of the world’s misery vanish if we could simply begin to do what we encourage our children to do? To share?"
Maybe a little overenthusiastic in casting JLas a philosopher, but honestly, who else was there at the time - or even now. Philosophers often don't go recognised because they have altered the philisopher's mold in becoming philosophers.

John lennon talked about instant karma is all karma instant in a way I wonder.
Re: The Philosophy of John Lennon
John Lennon was shot dead. Dying from a bullet takes time. Any phenomenon takes time. Instant doesn't really mean much , except for in poetry, where it can mean anything at all.jackles wrote:John lennon talked about instant karma is all karma instant in a way I wonder.

"Was it a millionaire who wrote, 'Imagine no possessions...?' "
-- Elvis Costello.
Costello has a point.
