Chris Hedges is a Pulitzer prize winning journalist and author. He is passionate and dedicated to finding the truth, no matter what, it seems, even at personal cost to himself. "In January, 2012 he sued the President, Barack Obama over Section 1021(b)(2) of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which authorized the military to detain U.S. citizens indefinitely. The U.S. District Judge Katherine Forrest, who accepted every one of his challenges to the law, made her temporary injunction of the section permanent. In short, she declared the law unconstitutional.

The decision to vigorously fight the ruling is a further example of the Obama White House’s steady and relentless assault against civil liberties, an assault that is more severe than that carried out by George W. Bush. Obama supports the FISA Amendment Act, which retroactively makes legal what under the Constitution has traditionally been illegal—warrantless wire tapping, eavesdropping and monitoring directed against U.S. citizens. He has used the Espionage Act six times against whistle-blowers who have exposed government crimes, including war crimes, to the public. He interprets the 2001 Authorization to Use Military Force Act as giving him the authority to assassinate U.S. citizens and he wants the right to use the armed forces to throw U.S. citizens into military prisons, where they will have no right to a trial and no defined length of detention.

Liberal apologists for Barack Obama should read Judge Forrest’s 112-page ruling. It is a chilling explication and denunciation of the massive erosion of the separation of powers. It courageously challenges the overreach of Congress and the executive branch in stripping Americans of some of our most cherished constitutional rights."

That is difficult. It covers several issues from politics to pornography, corporation takeovers and the damage that is being done by these and where your country is heading.

On a lighter note, at the end of the vid when asked which is the best country he would wish to live in.......... his answer was America, since his ancestors had been there since the 1600s. (I cant recall the exact year). He is an interesting man.

Obama is a well meaning soul as far as I can see. If Amercia is becoming less of a force or becoming unknown to itself, then that is just change it needs to ride. Governments, let alone presidents are less game changers than they are reflections of the state of nations.

I agree that it is quite likely that the US is heading for big trouble, and have thought so for years. Thanks for the links. I did not yet view Hedges, but I watched 8 clips of Johnson, and agree with most of what he said.

He had a lot to say about the Bush administration, which reminded me of my own thoughts regarding Iraq. There were a lot of lies coming out of the administration, and they were obvious lies, but no one seemed to catch them. For example: We were supposed to be going after "terrorists", then all of a sudden we were going after "insurgents". I did not even know what an insurgent was, so I looked it up in my dictionary. An insurgent is someone who is trying to fight their own government, so how could we be going after "insurgents", when the insurgents were Iraqi people in Iraq, and we had already toppled the Iraqi government? There were lies upon lies upon lies in those wars with Iraq.

I remember having doubts about Desert Storm with the first Bush, but when Bush Jr. started the war called Shock and Awe, I thought the name very appropriate--as I was shocked that anyone could be so stupid and awed that anyone that stupid could get the Congress to approve what they were doing. I have not voted for a Republican President since Bush Senior and will not do it for the rest of my life--the Republicans have lost my vote on the Federal level.

A lot of people complain that the news is controlled by the parties that want war, and it may be true, but I have no training in politics, no special education, and used only the news media to learn about what was happening. The lies were there to be discovered, if one only chose to think. So my thought is that if Americans have lost the ability or will to think, then they may deserve whatever comes.

Chris Hedges is just a newspaper reporter. Maybe he's also a prophet, but I'd sure like to hear about any of his mystical experiences. In the meantime, I'm reminded of author Mark Twain's memorable comment, "The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated."
