What is the Value of Your Life

Post by The Jesus Head »

Humans cannot be other than human and do human things.
Existence is pointless .
Humans want to know the truth.
No other animal needs to know the truth.
Humans think truth matters.
You are all going to die soon.
What is the value of your life?

Without humans 'Truth' does not matter. Either there is nothing after we die...(so why care about nothingness If you aren't aware...after all...did you care about the nothing you were before you were born?) Or there is some type of awareness after we die...in which case we will have all the time in the world to find the truth. :)

What is the value of your life?
The value of my life is the degree to which other regard it.

You are confusing individual regard with the notion of intrinsic value.
I care not about what people think about you .
The question is about what your life means when it ends.

I'm not confusing anything. You asked a question, I told you the answer.
You did not specify 'intrinsic' ( a concept that we might unpack to reveal how irrelevant that is).

I care not about what people think about you .

I don't care about you either. That's not the point.

The question is about what your life means when it ends.

That is NOT the question you asked.

The question you now put is meaningless. When my life ends it is not measurable in terms of your value, other's values or my values. Life is not when death is, and death is not when there is life.
Your question is now empty.

How can that be since value is an opinion?

That is because value is an opinion.

You seem disappointed that your life is not eternal.

So values mean nothing ?
You seem disappointed that your life is not eternal.
You have totally missed all the points I have been making.
The point is that humans live as if they will live forever.

Nope of course not. That does not follow.

I've not missed any point.
Though you have not yet stated this, it is true that people do not live their lives with the thought of death everyday, and when most consider it they tend to resort to some fantasy about eternal life.
Until you have experienced the prospect of death in the face you never really know what that is about.
You are somewhere in between; I doubt you have faced the prospect of death in any immediate stark and unavoidable way, but you do not accept intellectually that you have any prospect of an afterlife, and this is what all this angst is about. You are definitely disappointed that you will die one day, but have not come to terms with that fact.

How wrong one can be.
I have experienced death in the face .
As for disappointment about death -again wrong.
Your problem is that you don't listen to what people say because it gets in the way
of what you think.
