Athletes and Equity

Post by commonsense »

Do women athletes deserve to be paid as much as men? Women soccer players play the same game as men. Likewise for basketball, softball, tennis and golf, to name a few.

Every professional athlete must bring to bear 100% of their athleticism while in the arena of play, whether man or woman. Isn’t this a reasonable basis for pay equity?

Are the women’s efforts rightly deemed less valuable? In terms of sponsorship, advertising, viewership and attendance, are women athletes worth less than men?

And in these events, they generate almost no money compared to the men.

But that's simple economics. If women's sports were as attractive to the public as men's, then you would find them being exploited for every dollar they would generate, just as all other sports are. But they're not. Because the public is not as enthused about women's sports as about men's. They won't pay for women's sports like they will for men's.

Why are women supermodels paid vastly more than male ones? Economics. The women sell, the men don't sell as well. It's that simple. Women models sell more clothes, perfume, magazines, etc. than male ones do. Why should the men be paid equally for not being as good at making the money?

There's no conspiracy here. Money goes where money can be made. Money doesn't care about gender. It cares only about making more money.

Well, there could be reasons why the public won't pay as much for women's events as men's. It could be that more men like sports, and that they like it more than most women do, or are more willing to part with money for it. That's possible.

It's also possible that more women buy clothes, shoes, perfume, makeup, magazines, and hair products than men do. So women are willing to pay more as a consequence of seeing models that represent an ideal they aspire to copy. So women models make more money than men do.

It's also possible that the fact that women run slower than men do, are not as strong as men, and are, on average, less competitive and more agreeable in disposition than men are -- all of which are scientifically verified facts. That may make women's sports less attractive, too.

But I think the money thing's the key.

On a related issue, what happens to women's sports when trans-athletes are allowed to compete as if they were real women?

We know what will happen to men's sports...nothing. No female-trying-to-be-male is going to end up supplanting male athletes, because no amount of steroids, etc. is sufficient to compensate for female physical characteristics in this regard. For example, no amount of training or drugs is going to turn a Rhonda Rousey into a Brock Lesnar, or a Candace Parker into a Michael Jordan, or a Marta into a Messi. All are fine athletes, in their respective categories...but in every case, the men have an overwhelming physical advantage.

So what will happen to women's sports, when men are allowed to compete with them?

It doesn't take a genius to guess. It's already happening.

Sports are just part of the entertainment industry, and most of the money therefore comes from TV, ticket sales, merchandising and so on. In the sport end of that, the big money goes to whoever sells most tickets, shirts and hot dogs.

If Athleticism, effort, or merit had anything to do with remuneration in sports, then both male and golfers would earn less than both male and female gymnasts do - but they do not, not at all. Lady tennis players can earn a lot more than male gymnasts though, because lady tennis is a popular spectator sport.

Apparently lady porn stars earn more than male ones though. So there you go, the most woke part of the entertainment industry is perhaps the one where women choke on big dicks, and everyone is segregated rigidly according to race.
