Why moral judgments cannot be objective truths?
- Ethical differences between first order moral judgments make it difficult to threat those judgments as apprehension of objective truths,
J L Mackie 1977
- Disagreement about [a moral matter] X is best explained by there not being any objective fact of the matter about X
Brian Leiter 2009
- Persistent disagreements on foundational questions ... distinguish moral theory from inquiry in the Sciences and Mathematic.
Brian Leiter 2009
But note there are significant disagreements in mathematics,
- Indeed, for core claims in every area of mathematics, from set theory to analysis to arithmetics, there are some .. who deny these claims"
Justin Clarke-Doane 2014
- "Contrary to the popular (mis)conception of mathematics as cut-and- dried body of universally agreed-on truth and methods, as soon as one examines the foundation of mathematics, one encounters divergences of viewpoint and failures of communication that can easily remind one of religious, schismatic controversy"
Geoffrey Hellman and John Bell 2006
Mathematical Pluralism
Joel Hamkin 2012 claim there are many corresponding set theoretic universes.
The point here is,
if there are disagreements in mathematics and yet mathematics can be objective the above sense,
then, it is possible for even if there are disagreements in moral judgment, there are moral objective truths in that same sense.
I have already argued for such moral objectivity in the various threads.
Do you agree to the above?
or insist there can be no moral objectivity.
