an argument for extremism

(in absence of explicit reasons otherwise) a search for the word feathered should show up in equal proportion for every category of use, regardless of what percentage a particular use is of all uses. 90% of all relevant pictures being of hair must not wash out any hint of other uses. unless it's apparent that you're looking for hair, hair feathering should represent 1/x of all examples of feathering where x is the broad(est?) categories in which it's relevant. However, this can be diminished not only by explicit preferences, but by the relative worth of the term within each category. If quilting has an archaic usage for the term it could be appropriate to denegrate the overall results, because it's not even particularly relevant in its local use area. This should never eliminate it from a default result entirely or practically, because it is always possible that someone's looking for precisely that.

therefore, extreme examples ought to be more highly represented in a default set of search results than the most likely ones.
