and he was clearly crazy (in the colloquial not medical sense) in that he drove around with a gun and demanded that random people going about their business explain their business to him

Actually the dumbest thing you can do is engaging in a fight with someone that has a gun. Please promise me that if a crazy fat fuck with a gun comes at you and intimidates you in any way you don't try to fight him...

Even if the gun is already pointed at you, and your attacker announces he will shoot. Your best chances are to talk him out and be obedient.

Whether the smartest thing to do for Trayvon was to run away or stay and obey George Zimmerman depends on what exactly happened, which we will unfortunately never know.

When somebody has been wrongly convicted of a crime and imprisoned, the government usually has to pay restitution. How about George Zimmerman? Falsely arrested and forced to come up with $1 million bail, forbidden to leave the county for almost a year and a half, charged with second degree murder that could have put him behind bars for most of his life, gained more than a hundred pounds in six months due to emotional distress, required to wear a GPS tracking device, had to hire a private security detail and wear a bulletproof vest due to death threats, needed to wear a disguise in public when he seldom ventured out, and now faces a life of what? When the government puts an innocent man through this kind of living hell, it should be with an open checkbook.

depends on what you think my premise is

i think that the fact that zimmerman started a confrontation that he did not have to start - with someone who was minding his own business and was unarmed - and ended up shooting him - should be enough to convict him of unlawful homicide of some sort - and in most places it would be enough

but it may well be that the jury's decision was correct according to Florida law

the funny thing is that the same people who think that martin deserved it could just as easily be blown away by someone who can then claim self defense - and there will be no way to refute that claim beyond reasonable doubt
