Re: Poetry here.
I Chop Some Parsley While Listening To Art Blakey's Version Of "Three Blind Mice"
- by Billy Collins
And I start wondering how they came to be blind.
If it was congenital, they could be brothers and sister,
and I think of the poor mother
brooding over her sightless young triplets.
Or was it a common accident, all three caught
in a searing explosion, a firework perhaps?
If not,
if each came to his or her blindness separately,
how did they ever manage to find one another?
Would it not be difficult for a blind mouse
to locate even one fellow mouse with vision
let alone two other blind ones?
And how, in their tiny darkness,
could they possibly have run after a farmer's wife
or anyone else's wife for that matter?
Not to mention why.
Just so she could cut off their tails
with a carving knife, is the cynic's answer,
but the thought of them without eyes
and now without tails to trail through the moist grass
or slip around the corner of a baseboard
has the cynic who always lounges within me
up off his couch and at the window
trying to hide the rising softness that he feels.
By now I am on to dicing an onion
which might account for the wet stinging
in my own eyes, though Freddie Hubbard's
mournful trumpet on "Blue Moon,"
which happens to be the next cut,
cannot be said to be making matters any better.

I'd let it go, Harbal. You will never persuade the fundamentalists that the mice were not literally blind.Harbal wrote:Obviously, the mice's blindness was metaphoric: they were blind to the dangers of chasing farmers' wives.

Re: Poetry here.
I was out spraying weeds today
Ruthlessly killing them wherever they lay
The weeds grow by the droves
Among the rows
Of bushes and flowers we so carefully plant
I killed them for no other reason
Than because I didn’t want them there
I sort of wonder if what I did was wrong
Killing all these poor creatures doing me no real harm
Their green leaves produce vital oxygen which I breathe
But I killed them anyway
In spite of this noble deed
I suppose I also produce a little CO2 in return
For them to use
So they can grow back again
And when they do
Maybe next time
I’ll let them live
Ruthlessly killing them wherever they lay
The weeds grow by the droves
Among the rows
Of bushes and flowers we so carefully plant
I killed them for no other reason
Than because I didn’t want them there
I sort of wonder if what I did was wrong

And when they do

I fully relate
I experienced similar
With daddy longlegs' fate.
A violent hominid with a vacuum cleaner
Only pragmatism kept her from being meaner
Knowing that spiders strategically placed
Are the footing on which insect control is based.
So some daddies died
And others were spared
Working hard for this ape
Until their job has been squared.
Then, like a CEO
When they're of no use
I make them redundant
If a gain is deduced.
We don't just kill to live
But for convenience too,
For if we focus too much on the stuff
That peers believe is trivial fluff
The opportunity costs
Result in rebuffs
- then life becomes pretty rough.
Those who decline to hunt
Become the hunted
If you decline to flay
Then you become the prey.
People are expected to kill without mercy
With no care nor remorse nor controversy.
So, to ruminate on the fate of a plant
Or to try not to step on an ant
Is a sure way to invite ridicule
Some will say you're a wanker and a tool
But look at things clearly
And go do the math
It's simply peer pressure
To be psychopaths.
As predators, ruthlessness is required
When hunting, empathy must be retired
For long enough to ignore the life passage
Of our poor victims, and do fatal damage.
There is only one thing that humans can do
We need to progress until the breakthrough
To make the sacrifices of others worthwhile
We'll become autotrophic - then more life can smile.

All the pirates on the ship were orphans and made that fact known.
It seemed that every ship they captured was crewed entirely by orphans.
So the pirates would relent and let them go.
At one point the pirate captain asked "Would you have us be more ruthless?"
Fredrick answered, "It might help."

Re: i been breakin' 'jars' since 1962
Breakable jars are accepted for their value
Not valued for their fragility
Breakable jars are made of glass
Non-porous like stainless steel
Dinnerware for cumin and turmeric, peppers and cardamom
Many steel jars of which would break the bank

The thing I made stood for the way in which society positioned a particular thing. In reflecting the truth in the way it was conceived - it undermined the legitimacy of the thing portrayed.
