little child

i saw you in the news today
why did you have to go away

why did they find you under the water

why did you have to suffer
why did you have to die

if i would've known
i'd have died to save you thereunder

why did you have to wander
so far over there

why did this have to happen

why
anyone but you
little little one

William Wordsworth - My Heart Leaps Up

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky.
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
And I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety.

Samuel Alexander, Space, Time, and Deity, vol. II, Peter Smith 1979,(originally published in 1920), p. 46:
The higher quality emerges from the lower level of existence and has its roots therein, but it emerges therefrom, and it does not belong to that lower level, but constitutes its possessor a new order of existent with its special laws of behaviour. The existence of emergent qualities thus described is something to be noted, as some would say, under the compulsion of brute empirical fact, or, as I would prefer to say in less harsh terms, to be accepted with the "natural piety" of the investigator. It admits no explanation.
If, however, the emergent entities admit of no explanation, if their emergence is a brute fact, then claims of emergence are open to the 'poof' objection. It would appear to be rather unbecoming of a hard-assed physicalist to simply announce that such-and-such has emerged when he can offer no explanation of how it has emerged. If interactionist dualists are supposed to be embarrassed by questions as to how mind and body interact, then emergentists are in a similar boat.
That being said, "natural piety" is a beautiful phrase.

Natural impropriety has it's charm too...

WARNING

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Heaven is this moment
We are always in the center
not somewhere else
waiting to enter

The Eternal Now
is Timeless Space
The Infinite Thus
the universal pace

From Infant through Sage
seven disciplines to know
As Companions of God
seven steps each must go

Seven Ages
we’ll collectively grow
As flesh turns back to light
Seven Ethics will flow

Seven Heavens we Master
‘fore we get Jove’s nod
This climb we must make
up the stairway to God

Heaven One
Stone Age garden of Eden
innocent Infant born
the apple eaten

Heaven Two
Bronze Age astral of illusion
of Childhood chores
and playground profusion

Heaven Three
Neophyte’s Iron Age anvil
of Craftsmen and Scripture
fearing God and Devil

Heaven Four
Steel Age teens of rebel might
where expressions of Self
reach egotistical height

Heaven Five
Steward’s Estate
Nuclear Age key
to the Pearly Gate

Heaven Six
the Solar Age lover
of parental craft
and cherubs in clover

Heaven Seven
Cosmic Age of Compassion
abode of the Sage
of galactic persuasion

Heaven ’s Final Haven
a Void of penetration
fused in Black Holes
of sagacious concentration

Each polished Heaven
an evolutionary grace
where pilgrimages of the psyche
spiral through Space

We build them our Selves
as labors of Love
Holy offerings of art
to our Sun above

All Heavens are spun
from dreams of gold
each heaven a haven
as the Ages unfold

Chipped from Stone
Smelted in Bronze
Forged into Iron
Tempered to Steel
a Nuclear reaction
of Solar compassion
and Cosmic expression

Burst from the Cosmic Blast
images spiral in dance
mirroring our Self
in narcissistic glance

Ages of endeavor
brim God ’s goblet
with nectar’s flow
distilled from the sweat
that crowns our brow

Infant innocent
and Childish care
Pubertal pain
and Teenage dare
Steward’s Key
and Master scheme
all leading upwards
to a Sage ’s dream

Uniquely individualized
crystals evolving from coal
we’re critically integrated
with the Over Soul

A universe embodied
in each microcosm
every polished Being
expressing the macrocosm

Aging is a constituent process
taking each and all
from Infant’s innocence
to a Sage ’s call

As virgin souls age in Time
private lives gravitate
from family to clan
to a national state

Metamorphic transitions
of each maturing soul
that parallel the psyche
of the collective whole

The sun did at last flicker it's erstwhile dance,
while we huddled cold and hungry but gifted by chance.

Twenty two of us sat in the stench and decay,
that humanity had created on that penultimate day.

From nations with tongues strange to my ears,
my twenty one bretherin mirrored my fears.

We sat and we watched and we wondered aloud,
but no answers nor murmers came from our crowd.

How from our billions we handful had come,
to be the very last, it is us save none.

We peered into the darkness of the humanless night,
electricity like commerce a historical site.

Why only we were gathered we could not digest,
and we asked each other why in tongues strange to the rest.

All my family and friends a memory now,
it is to these strangers my life must avow.

Our eyes raised to the heavens when a shape pierced the night,
the visitors have returned, their craft bathed in light.

Then an alien being from the craft did declare,
in a tongue that was foreign but abundantly clear.

You have been chosen the experiments run,
you eleven pair humans reared by this sun.

We planted the seed and had forgone the staff.
so now we are back to sort the wheat from the chalf.

In a single voice we cried why us,
we exhibit our product of worlds turned to dust.

What name shall we call you,
we asked trembling and grieved.
well you chose Jehovah for my grand uncle Steve.

Freeze

Post by Pluto » Wed Jun 03, 2009 9:02 pm

Frozen stiff
No job no prospects no chance
tax man on my back
been given a bill for 11 thousand
in the bank there's 900
How the fuck did I get here - am I really so stupid - so useless
See friends with everything - seem happy and see me as depressed, can't conform totally
What's wrong with me - am I communist in nature, do I see capitalism as degrading - what can I offer the market?
If I have a fundamental problem with a system that treats its citizens as dogs and kills easily abroad - how can I be expected to sponsor it, to support in any way their dead-end, dead-life policies, their friends running mega-size brain-washers designed to stunt growth through development - we must reduce the population
There must be something I'm good at, something I can do but what?
I turn on the box, read papers, watch films and see the shadows of dead souls fondling themselves - loving your gaze
Can I not put forward something genuine of real significance to counter this desert of a being
There is something on the horizon - its light is not bright but its there I know it is, in a way all I must do is make it bigger
A world as big as this can't be seen by just one man

Cheers to both of you for your comments but it's just a poem, not real life.
