Surrealism

Manifesto of Surrealism
by André Breton, 1924
https://www.tcf.ua.edu/Classes/Jbutler/ ... ealism.htm

“Still, STILL.... We must absolutely get to the bottom of this. Today, June 8, 1924, about one o'clock, the voice whispered to me: 'Béthune, Béthune.' What did it mean? I have never been to Béthune, and have only the vaguest notion as to where it is located on the map of France. Béthune evokes nothing for me, not even a scene from The Three Musketeers. I should have left for Béthune, where perhaps there was something awaiting me; that would have been too simple, really.”
- Breton

The final adventure into the unknown, which will be the biggest and most exciting, looms for all.

What better way to practice up than to follow the winds of wu wei with earnestness and focus, as suggested by Breton.

About a hundred years after the manifesto that followed dada, surrealism is now more acceptable, although the defining spirit of the manifesto itself has been whittled down to simply mean, “weird.”

The link is a short film, an historical precursor to the cultural indoctrination that lends gravitas to the fantastic, so much so that with or without children in tow, adults work hard to make long pilgrimages, to pay homage at Disney with the fruits of labor.

“Destino is an animated short film released in 2003 by The Walt Disney Company. Destino is unique in that its production originally began in 1945, 58 years before its eventual completion. The project was originally a collaboration between American animator Walt Disney and Spanish Surrealist painter Salvador Dalí, and features music written by Mexican songwriter Armando Dominguez and performed by Dora Luz.[1] It was included in the Animation Show of Shows in 2003.”

Meaningless, yet somewhat recognizable.

Philosophical origins of this popularity …

The link does with words what Duchamp did with bicycle handlebars and seat.

It allows the viewer to participate in finding the meaning of an unusual situation, rather than dismissing without thought what doesn't fit due to relying on known meanings in usual situations. Common situations turn uncommon rather quickly. When the wind blows the brittle bow breaks and the cradle tumbles down.

For instance, many in the US dismiss without thought the concept of government shutdown and assume it's always a looming boogie-man sleeping in the closet, rather than think of it as a new concept in a system that requires a government budget.

Why is such a monster allowed to exist?

Because it allows for the political blame game, and the threat of chaos on a predictable timeline... and for unaccountable spending.

If properly oriented on the xy axis, when you think about it vertically the link is funny because it reveals the conditioned and arbitrary nature of what folks do, which extrapolates into the conditioned and arbitrary nature of what and how you think, and draws attention to the origin and transmission of thought.

Does the thought move from host to host, or does the principle (thought) host a variety of people who are linked by sharing the biological commonality of humanness?

In other words, revolution stays the same and only the people change.
The particulars of the situation serve the principle, which originates in emotion.

AI research is likely dedicated to machines feigning emotion.
