What is an Artist?
Re: What is an Artist?
Art may be a "mystery" as in immeasurable. But art is not mystification and the artist is not a mystifier as mystifiers are quacks.

Totally agree about not being mystifiers. Making up weird stuff wouldn't be the point. But I've always felt that art work where the entire intent of the artist could be satisfactorily rendered by the artist in a few paragraphs of text isn't art at all.

I agree. The consumer of the art work needs to do some interpretative work, emotional involvement or thinking and preferably both, before the art can be classed as good art. Otherwise it's escapist or fashionably decorative.Interjectivist wrote:Totally agree about not being mystifiers. Making up weird stuff wouldn't be the point.
