Thanks for that, sounds interesting. Vance Packard's Hidden Persuaders is a book that's interesting too.

Yeah, I read some of it. Forgot I had the book. Think I'll read some more.

Just follow the money. TV commercials have big budgets.

Yes, I agree the mass media is so under-rated in its effect on people that it is a none subject. Hidden as it has merged with the air we breathe, a mediatised biosphere of hate and death. It is anti-human. And in the hands of those who detest mass-man. It is a power tool of control. The programming is aligned with that of both corporate and political power. Submerged in the web of mass culture it becomes hard to think anything other than what you are in and unfortunately will or have already become. In a time gone by did man make a society to fit man, now it happens the other way. Through mass culture you can create a people to fit any kind of monstrosity society a mind can think up. We no longer want informed folks, but rather folks who are oblivious to any notion that they are our principal enemy.

Not sure of your meaning with all those pronouns.

Yes, who is speaking about who and what. Where is the writer positioned. Clarity in pinning-down today will always fall short because the times themselves are unsure.

So the position of the work is that the mass media is the front-line enemy to be addressed. The power today of the mass media is so big that it has become hidden from view or scrutiny. It has become the air we breathe. The mediatisation of a once reality now subsumed by the reality of media. As Baudrillard had said reality has been murdered. Our reality now is mass mediated reality which can be manipulated accordingly and sits within the hands of those in power. Entertainment is and perhaps has always been politicised and aligned to benefit power. We consume entertainment and it directs us to the way in which the power would like us to think and move. Our culture is now our programming our daily brainwashing in the service of power. The situation we find ourselves in is extremely serious and dangerous. Journalists on this side of the border are finding themselves dead for speaking the truth. The lives we lead are going along within a time where a march toward totalitarianism is real and happening. What to do, if anything. Turn a blind eye if you can. Yet the artist confronts reality in order that the work may speak of the present time. What then can we say of the work, unfinished drawings of paintings. Muted in colour. The work must not represent or promote the system. For the system is in deep trouble and has become anti-man. It wants to destroy her and use up his power.

That’s truly eloquent, Pluto. Pour the thought into a mold that lacks “to be” and what appears will surprise you.

Consider for a moment that both artists and those within the system have already realized what you say, and consider that what you say has always been so.

So what’s different now?

Ego has always had a tendency to attach, at least since Buddha’s observations. Ever-accelerating pace-of-change in acolytes of the technology-era has been yanking the Grounding of attachment from under ego, but as in slower times when the Ground was lost less frequently, not without reactionary consequences of thought and action ... unlike when the magician smoothly snaps free a laden tablecloth (notice not such a wondrous act in this "age of boredom" (caused by over-stimulation rather than sophistication)); attachment causes flatware to fly, causes china to break, causes meat and veggies on the floor as pickings for the dogs.

Thanks Walker, eloquent is what I'm aiming for, so that's great. How to water down (meltdown) the communication so you only have the stuff that matters, yet simultaneously producing new vistas, while not falling into the glue of academic speech.

The TV is the conduit between you and power - it speaks to you through programmes and news as if it wants to influence your thinking

That's not true, Pluto, the TV has absolutely no influence over me.

So your position is 'I'm alright Jack' while those that do watch are walking around totally brainwashed, is that it?
