From the sublime to the ridiculous post above, lovely singing voice, post below: Shampoo?

Somethings come along and it's burst my bubble. :S

If you're going to do pop, make it something that is at least half decent and besides we are living in a world of fools; ok it's a cover version but for the video alone they deserve props. There's no accounting for taste. ;)

If it's any consolation as far as pop goes I think the Bee Gees original as far as the song goes is of course better, but that video is just scary. Who thought that up, and what sort of prison did he eventually end up in, and was it for the criminally insane. ;)

I'd sell my soul to see Led Zeppelin live, but I don't have one so that probably aint going to happen in fantasy land.

I would start a thread about good videos, but feel free to post great videos and songs as well, kind of already happening but if you want to focus on the video feel free despite the thread topic. If you can find them post them, it'll liven up a dull evening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lK4cX5xGiQ

I'll start with the ridiculous feel free to proceed to the sublime.

Or not you don't have to post a video but if you want to, feel free. :)

It's not my fvourite song of all time by the way, I'll reserve that for when I finally hear the best song in the world. ;)

All art is a subjective experience, and as such, universally speaking, there is no best. It all depends on what people find in the art, that which speaks to them, that which they find more important.

As one looks at the entirety of the human race, it can be apparent as to what everyone actually needs, that does them the most good, and that is what I find in my preference of my most important art, that which is best, to me, for the entirety of the whole world, what is actually best for everyone.

For me there are so many, so it's impossible to name the best 'one,' but here are three that are very close to the top, not so coincidentally from the same group and album. The music on the entire album is top notch, as well as it's lyrical content. It is in fact Progressive rock and was released in 1969, during the Vietnam war. As history repeats itself, when shall we ever learn. This album, one of many, that has lent to my philosophy.

The whole album is worth a listen, if you like prog rock, performed by talented musicians. Many have stated that the album was ahead of it's time, I concur, you?

(Find links and lyrics to 3 of my favorite tracks below, though all tracks are awesome.)

Here’s a: Review by Bruce Eder:

"The group's definitive album, and one of the most daring debut albums ever recorded by anybody. At the time, it blew all of the progressive/psychedelic competition (the Moody Blues, the Nice, etc.) out of the running, although it was almost too good for the band's own good -- it took King Crimson nearly four years to come up with a record as strong or concise. Ian McDonald's Mellotron is the dominant instrument, along with his saxes and Fripp's guitar, making this a somewhat different-sounding record from everything else they ever did. And even though that Mellotron sound is muted and toned down compared to their concert work of the era (e.g., Epitaph), it is still fierce and overpowering, on an album highlighted by strong songwriting (most of it filled with dark and doom-laden visions), the strongest singing of Greg Lake's entire career, and Fripp's guitar playing that strangely mixed elegant classical, Hendrix-like rock explosions, and jazz noodling. Lineup changes commenced immediately upon the album's release, and Fripp would ultimately be the only survivor on later King Crimson records."

Artist: King Crimson in 1969 was: Robert Fripp / Michael Giles / Greg Lake / Ian McDonald / Peter Sinfield
Album: In the Court of the Crimson King

1) 21st Century Schizoid Man including Mirrors
2) I Talk to the Wind
3) Epitaph including March For No Reason & Tomorrow And Tomorrow
4) Moonchild including The Dream & The Illusion
5) The Court of the Crimson King including The Return of the Fire Witch & The Dance of the Puppets

---Moonchild is a really sweet, while quite gothic IMHO---

The 1st track:
21st Century Schizoid Man including Mirrors
Lyrics:
===================
Cats foot iron claw
Neuro-surgeons scream for more
At paranoia's poison door.
Twenty first century schizoid man.

Blood rack barbed wire
Politicians funeral pyre
Innocents raped with napalm fire
Twenty first century schizoid man.

Death seed blind mans greed
Poets starving children bleed
Nothing hes got he really needs
Twenty first century schizoid man.

The 3rd track:
Epitaph including March For No Reason & Tomorrow and Tomorrow
Lyrics:
===================
The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back
And laugh.
But I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying.

Between the iron gates of fate,
The seeds of time were sown,
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known;
Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules.
The fate of all mankind I see
Is in the hands of fools.

<instrument solos>

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams.
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams.
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams,
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams.

Confusion will be my epitaph.
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it we can all sit back and laugh.
But I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Crying......
Crying......
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Yes I fear tomorrow Ill be crying,
Crying.....

The 5th track:
The Court of the Crimson King including The Return of the Fire Witch & The Dance of the Puppets
Lyrics:
===================
The rusted chains of prison moons
Are shattered by the sun.
I walk a road, horizons change
The tournament's begun.
The purple piper plays his tune,
The choir softly sing;
Three lullabies in an ancient tongue,
For the court of the crimson king.

The keeper of the city keys
Put shutters on the dreams.
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With insufficient schemes.
The black queen chants
the funeral march,
The cracked brass bells will ring;
To summon back the fire witch
To the court of the crimson king.

The gardener plants an evergreen
Whilst trampling on a flower.
I chase the wind of a prism ship
To taste the sweet and sour.
The pattern juggler lifts his hand;
The orchestra begin.
As slowly turns the grinding wheel
In the court of the crimson king.

On soft gray mornings widows cry
The wise men share a joke;
I run to grasp divining signs
To satisfy the hoax.
The yellow jester does not play
But gentle pulls the strings
And smiles as the puppets dance
In the court of the crimson king.

I can't hear that song without remembering Scrubs.

I do think it's better than ...Land Down Under though. Although bung me a vegemite sandwich I might change my mind as they are pretty close...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrGmcuj44DQ

Actually think it sounds better acoustically although it's a great song either way, it's just the other version sounds a little over produced and this is more well real...

"I have other songs you know?"

Something Colin Hay says to Dr Cox after he breaks his guitar in the series...

I bet he got a bit tired of saying that to many people about I Come From a Land Down Under. ;)

Incidentally have I mentioned:

Anyone who doesn't like this is a communist. ;)

This one, to me, is so beautiful that it's been known to actually cause chills and bring tears to my eyes. Usually during the instrumental section just preceding, and including the lyrics starting with: "Master of Images."

To: thedoc, since you like (play?) piano, the beginning has some nice stuff performed by, classically trained, keyboardist: Rick Wakeman.

Artist: Yes at albums release was: Jon Anderson/Steve Howe/Rick Wakeman/Chris Squire/Alan White
Album: Going for the One
Track: Awaken
Written By: Anderson/Howe
===================
Lyrics
===================
"High Vibration go on
To the sun, oh let my heart dreaming
Past a mortal as me
Where can I be

Wish the sun to stand still
Reaching out to touch our own being
Past all mortal as we
_Here we can be
_We can be here
_Be here now
_Here we can be

_AWAKEN_|__SUNS HIGH STREAMS THRU__|_AWAKEN
_GENTLE_|_STRONG DREAMS REIGN HERE_|_GENTLE_
__MASS___|____________.)(.____________|___MASS___
_TOUCH__|____STAR, SONG, AGE, LESS___|_TOUCHING

Workings of man
Set to ply out historical life
Reregaining the flower of the fruit of his tree
All awakening
All restoring you

Workings of man
Crying out from the fire set aflame
By his blindness to see that the warmth of his being
Is promised for his seeing his reaching so clearly

Workings of man
Driven far from the path
Rereleased in inhibitions
So that all is left for you
all is left for you
all is left for you
all this left for you NOW...

Master of Images
Songs cast a light on you
Hark thru dark ties
That tunnel us out of sane existence
In challenge as direct
As eyes see young stars assemble

Master of Light
All pure chance
As exists cross divided
In all encircling mode
Oh closely guided plan
Awaken in our heart

Master of Soul
Set to touch
All impenetrable youth
Ask away
That thought be contact
With all that's clear
Be honest with yourself
There's no doubt no doubt

Master of Time
Setting sail
Over all our lands
And as we look
Forever closer
Shall we now bid
Farewell farewell...

High Vibration go on
To the sun, oh let my heart dreaming
Past a mortal as me
Where can I be

Wish the sun to stand still
Reaching out to touch our own being
Past all mortal as we
Here we can be
We can be here

Like the time I ran away
And turned around
And you were standing close to me

Like the time I ran away
And turned around
And you were standing close to me"

Listening to it now. Just curious do you have a listing of the other instruments? Obviously the piano, and I believe guitar, organ, drums, and other percussion, along with the voices. But I'm not sure about some of the others. Yes the opening piano was good, but as a friend of mine said, "at my age the fingers just don't work that fast", we've both been away from the piano for years, I'm just getting back to it. He claimed to have played the "Flight of the Bumble Bee" years ago, and I have looked at the music, and the music isn't difficult musically, just physically difficult to play at tempo. Just about done now.
