Thank you bus2bondi. It is nice to see heavy metal's humanity.

Rather than add more on the same theme, I have added an interactive music video from Arcade Fire, http://thewildernessdowntown.com/. Be aware that it is a bit beefy when it is running so could slow any other PC applications you are using at the same time. This time round I used my work postcode, yes very sad for a Friday night/Saturday morning :? .

well Metallica started with me at the time when Metallica pretty much started with everyone else. but i was a tad under it but facinated. i grew and pretty much LIVED metallica you know, if you don't believe me, there might be a slight, and i mean a slight few you could ask to tell you if that was true, anyhow, i never spent much time in record stores tho. i don't mean it as an offense, but always had an internal inclination against them. why? i don't know.

Always helps to dispel Brian Ferry's lounge lizard image  .

Reminded me of Kate Bush's Snowed In At Wheeler Street with Elton John http://vimeo.com/32776587 - time-crossed lovers - but video is a bit schmaltzy.

Fair enough. Imo, Lars comes across as an ambitious guy with a big game plan, kinda like Simon Cowell, and Mustaine, nomatter his talent, would have been too volatile for Lars' liking.

Well, what can I say :?:.

Imo
Is it the varied music, even changing tempo within a track? Yeah, some other genres do this too but pop not so much.
The use of real musical instruments? Less use of synths and samples?
The variety of lyric topics e.g. W1 injuries http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzgGTTtR0kc , satan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7svqfVu ... re=related  ; instead of pop's baby me mine tonight? Yes, there are many heavy metal be my baby tracks - at least they generally are a bit more inventive http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5tCyJzI-6kc 8) .

 And the cultural highlights that can come with heavy metal, after you get past the idea of it's all spotty geeky guys who stay in their bedroom...
- the feeling of being part of a rebellious, outcast crowd?
- the guys? The dark brooding guys with long hair, large muscles and motorbikes? The shy but sharp-witted skinny guys with money and cars - with no girls to spend their money on and too sensible to have motorbikes  .

Or is just the higher guy to girl ratio so there is more choice for the girls - whether they dress like rock chicks or from little house on the prairie - I have found both looks can achieve the desired effect  .
