True. It's silly affectation. Some worse than others. I can't listen to Adele because all those annoying affected vowel sounds get on my nerves. 'Lorde' is even more irritating.
Sinatra's phrasing was brilliant. Very personal. Same with Bing Crosby. What's the point in singing a song if no one has a clue what the words are?

Just had a look and 'wrapped up like a douche' is apparently 'revved up like a deuce' (which makes about as much sense).

My point with Sheeran was that he's got some of the lyrics wrong, making some of the phrases nonsensical (which means he didn't understand what he was singing). Then he says sagely at the end 'he's an intense guy...' Well I suppose you would think that when you write shallow rubbish that's all about the same thing.
