All I can say is, SOMEBODY never got to go outside and play catch with the neighborhood kids.
Media-altering capabilities don’t necessarily negate the saying, “Seeing is believing,” but they do weaken assumed certainties concerning the limitations of physicality, as do Paganiniesque, preternatural displays like that chubby kid with the fast fat fingers.

If the perceived isn't appropriate to known possibilities then further investigation is warranted before betting the farm.

Perhaps, but after further examination we discover that the bass is, indeed, fretless, thereby liberating any would-be chubby fast fingers from excessive restriction pertaining to the implementation of individual notes, as well as the general linear movement of the hand across the instrument neck. We conclude, then, that said chubby fast fingers have indeed produced, with genuine effect and authenticity, the sounds which we are hearing upon our review of the track.

Amy’s pearl necklace brings to mind both ZZ Top and Zappa’s Jewish Princess.

_______

Eva Cassidy - Over the Rainbow.

Beautiful voice, great acoustic guitarist, and a very nice (live) rendition of that classic song.

Eva died (age 33) before becoming famous.

Autumn Leaves; Tall Trees In Georgia.

The young Jane Monheit.
Like Eva, no original hits, that I know of.
She became a lounge singer in an age of singer/song writers.
Another voice like a bird.

'Flambay' with vocals by Thana Harris: https://youtu.be/9vfzAJU1Isc

"In an interview she explained that Zappa hired her to sing because she could imitate the style of a longtime, slightly bored singer in a nightclub/cocktail bar: "[Frank told] me, when he handed me the cassette with the rhythm tracks and a guitar melody line which I was supposed to learn for the lead vocal, that he had tried numerous vocalists for numerous years and hadn't found the right one to sing the lyrics to those songs".

She has a beautiful voice. Jazz uses voice for sound moreso than conceptual meaning, Zappa pokes fun at that with his lyrics.

This is Zappa easy listening. Always liked it. Snappy tune, surprising vocals. It’s funny in its Dadaism and meaningless lyrics , that is, enhancing silly lyrics with serious attention and virtuoso collaborative skills that elevates the product to more than silly.

Another parody of using lyrics principally for their stylistic soundings.

Also nice ...

Borrowed lyrics (in homage); original music.

I've noticed that rather than conceptual transmission, Jazz singing is more about exploring particular nuances and moments of a breath sound, and then continuing to the next.
