Those are new to me.

Never got past pop fandom with them. Don't even know much about them. Two people? One people? Looks like two from that photo.

Whoever they are, they are their music to most.

Undersea by rail
Ninety minutes from New York to Paris
(more leisure for artists everywhere)
A just machine to make big decisions
Programmed by fellows with compassion and vision
We'll be clean when their work is done
We'll be eternally free yes and eternally young

What a beautiful world this will be
What a glorious time to be free

Yeah, the 'band' is essentially Fagen and Becker, who met in college, but several musicians (who came and went) were part of the project over the years.

Donald's such a boss. I fuckin love that guy. At one time I was set on driving up to Jersey to try and meet em. I know he's got a studio at the house, so I wanted to get in there and play a few with him on drums.

Here's another not-so-popular one: https://youtu.be/TDZdNr9PHao

Whatever it is, their stuff is always so pristine, polished and perfectly arranged... and the vocal harmonies are unforgettable. Definitely in my handful of favorite bands.

p.s. not a fan of Becker's solo stuff at all. Really Fagen was the heart and brains of the operation, while Becker was a good guitarist and engineer. If you decide to dig in, know that 'two against nature' was their last good album, so listen to all the old stuff when they're in their prime.

Well said. That's what I like about them, too.

Obviously then, likable is an objective thing independently recognized or discovered ... rather than a projection of personal taste.

And what is that thing recognized or discovered?
Order.

Surely, you must agree.

Oh no, I should have checked with the morally-pristine neo-puritans to make sure that he was 'morally sound' before posting that

I never liked Meatloaf, and anytime I heard it I was begging someone to make it stop. He was like a regular dude who shouldn't have been in a band but could be because he appealed so much to a huge audience of regular dudes who also wished they could be rockers. I find the music excessively mediocre... er, I mean meatiocre. Obnoxious too, and not in a good way.

Hmm, I've seen your 'taste' in music. Meat loaf had a terrific voice in his prime and epitomised an era along with Jim Steinman.

Lol holy shit I just found out that Todd Rundgren produced Bat Out of Hell and I can totally hear it now. It's like a dumbed down version of something Utopia would do.
