in seeking what is ours....

Post by Peter Kropotkin »

I am rereading "Irrational Man" by William Barrett....
and this quote pop out to me:

"Luther was saturated with the feeling of St. Paul that man can do
nothing and only god working in us can bring salvation''

And Luther wasn't the only one who felt this, Marx thought that
salvation was found in the ''divine'' presences of the "dialectical
materialism" a force found outside of us, and modern day
capitalists believe that salvation can be found in Capitalism..
and conservates believe that salvation can be found in
living in the past and within tradition...

but the truth, the sad truth is there is no salvation to be found
within the isms and ideologies of our times....
it is a lie we tell ourselves to get out of bed every morning....

we can find meaning and purpose within other idea's and values....
we can find meaning within ART, the pursuit of beauty, the seeking
of the aesthetic values within our life... ART and its creations can
give us hope, love, dreams, peace... all the values that can come
from the pursuit of the faded values of salvation and ism's....

We can find meaning and purpose, and isn't that the point of
salvation, we can find meaning and purpose in ART and in the
pursuit of values like peace, hope, love, wisdom......

values and meanings that can be found within us, within our own actions....
we are not dependent on outside forces like god or material goods or
communism to find salvation...

we are redeemed by religion, education, money, isms and ideologies,
outside forces... we cannot, according to modern mythology, find
ourselves without these outside forces.... but I say unto you,
we can find ourselves, within ourselves, within pursing our
possibilities of human existence......the possibility of me becoming
a great runner is gone due to injury and old age, but I can still
aspire to the possibility of being a great philosopher and I work
toward that every single day.....

for being a great philosopher isn't about seeking that which is outside of me,
but seeking that which is inside of me.....and for you, your own possibilities
lie within you, not as a universal value, but as a personal, unique goal to
which you can aspire to.... to be the best possibility you can be within your
own possibilities.... it might be a mathematician or a bricklayer or an
ARTIST or a writer, it clearly not a universal possibility but a personal
possibility for you and you alone.....we allow too much of
the outside forces to dictate who and what we are.....

I have a checker who is always blaming someone else...

"I would be happy if the other guy wasn't always talking shit about me"

but what this checker doesn't see is that blaming the other guy, you are giving
them the power over you... if they say something and you react, who has
the power in that situation? the person who is talking "shit" has the power if
they can get you to react to something they say or write... they say/write
something and you react... who has the power there?

and so, in the end, where is salvation found? inside of us.. within our own
possibilities.. and seeking those possibilities......

and within me, what is possible for me?

I want to be seen as the greatest philosopher of all time....
when books are written, I want my name as the greatest philosopher
of all time..... and one might say, Kropotkin, you are nuts, insane,
delusional.... but I see as my possibility, greatness as a philosopher...

and within that, I pursue philosophy every single day....it is a goal,
as within the seeking of what is possible for me, creates meaning
and purpose within my life...I don't need wealth or fame or
titles.. I don't need the baubles of existence to give me meaning or
purpose, baubles that can fade and disappear in time...
I seek out my meaning and purpose within the possibilities
that exist within my life...

what is your possibility? seek and find salvation...
