Philosophy of Action

Post by peterden »

I find multiple philosophers who look for the resource for explaining action.

Recently, I read Lizardo's Habit and the Explanation of Action. Unlike other philosophers, who regard 'intention' as the main causal driver for action, Lizardo centralizes 'habit' in her Philosophy of Action: '... changing habits imply a fundamental retooling of the self, changing who the person is in a more fundamental way than changing a belief or an intention' (Lizardo, 2019).

I can see how this interesting debate about intention-based vs. habit-based actions fits in with psychology/sociology. Yet, how can we regard this Philosophy of Action in the light of cultural/historical manifestations? I would love to find some reading material that provide possible answers to this question.
