Precarious Survivalism

Precarious Survivalism
The world is today overpopulated, with a degrading environment, due to the excess and folly of several past generations.
Therefore, we have effectively returned the world to a Survivalist mode, which has the ‘morality’ if such it may be termed, of Mother Nature. But with the stability that Nature provides, itself crushed by another Great Extinction.
Genuine morality does not begin until that natural stability is achieved, and rational societies be created, or recreated. If the human world and its national societies cannot work together on a virtual war footing, and each national community protect itself, then the outcome may be imagined.
It is only stable societies that can bring any real form of morality. But there are alternatives. At the worst, from an Altruist viewpoint, is such a form of society as we have seen in the past. Such as in Mesoamerica with the Aztecs and human sacrifice. We cannot accuse them of having been evil, since they were controlled by a religion and no alternative may have been known. A similar authoritarianism was found elsewhere, with human beings as chattels. Today it is commerce that may dictate, as owned or controlled by the state, or controlling the state.
Today there is a libertarian view of society, based on the individual, with only personal freedom and equality valued. On a global basis this can only undermine social cohesion, and human social and ethnic diversity. A world of seven billion individuals will agree about nothing.
The third form of moral society is what may be termed responsible altruism. In all essence this must advance localised society and economy. A local balance of extensive nature, human population in sensible towns and villages, and very limited agriculture and commerce. The vast waste in global commerce eliminated, with maximum local self-sufficiency.

What is it you want to survive? You, your neighborhood, your society, your country, mankind, or what?

They're all going to die. Shouldn't the purpose of life be to make one's own life successful. You are not going to save humanity.

You've been watching too many late night disaster movies.

The great thing about the planet is that it takes care of all things that come out of balance, so worry not and enjoy your life. Work hard, help others when you can, and when your done for the day, kick back, have a beer or two and savor the company of your significant other.
