And when you do need that knowledge, you just pay somebody who already has it.
Obtaining knowledge from somebody who already has it it faster/easier than re-discovering it for yourself.

The only way to transfer knowledge between humans was direct communication.
We invented writing/text for storing/communicating memories/knowledge across generations.
We invented computers to do it even better/faster/cheaper.
The finite limits of an individual are not the finite limits of humanity. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
